As we look to scale from $25M to $100M in revenue, we are seeking an experienced and strategic **Chief Operating Officer (COO)** to lead our operational teams and drive this next phase of growth.
Position Overview:
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will be a key member of the executive team, responsible for overseeing the company’s operational functions, implementing scalable processes, and ensuring the company is poised for rapid growth. This individual will play a pivotal role in strategic planning, financial oversight, operational efficiency, and organizational development. With deep experience in both residential and commercial construction environments, and a track record of scaling businesses, the COO will be instrumental in achieving our growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a long-term operational strategy to support the company’s growth from $25M to $100M in revenue. Work closely with the CEO and leadership team to align operational goals with business objectives.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee all day-to-day operations, including project management, supply chain, construction, and customer service. Drive process improvements, implement operational efficiencies, and ensure quality control across all projects.
- Scalability & Growth: Create and execute scalable processes to support increased project volume, expanding geographical reach, and entering new market segments. Identify opportunities for optimization and automation to enhance productivity.
- Financial Oversight: Partner with the CFO to manage budgets, control costs, and optimize profitability. Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Team Leadership & Development: Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing operations team, including project managers, site supervisors, and department heads. Implement training programs, succession planning, and leadership development to ensure the company’s growth is supported by top talent.
- Client & Stakeholder Relations: Maintain strong relationships with key clients, vendors, subcontractors, and stakeholders. Ensure client satisfaction by delivering projects that meet or exceed expectations.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks and challenges that could impact the business’s growth. Develop mitigation strategies and ensure compliance with all safety, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Innovation & Technology: Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies. Implement new tools and systems that drive efficiency, improve project outcomes, and enhance the customer experience.
- Performance Metrics: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of operational initiatives and track progress toward company goals. Regularly report on performance to the executive team and board of directors.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in operations management, with a focus on residential and commercial construction. Must have a proven track record of successfully scaling a business from $25M to $100M+ in revenue.
- Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate cross-functional teams. Experience building organizational structures and leading through periods of rapid growth.
- Strategic Thinking: Deep understanding of business operations, financial acumen, and the ability to think strategically about growth, scalability, and profitability.
- Operational Expertise: Hands-on experience with construction management, supply chain, logistics, and project management in the swimming pool, hardscape, or outdoor living space sectors.
- Process Improvement: Demonstrated success in optimizing operations and implementing scalable processes that drive efficiency and improve margins.
- Financial Management: Strong understanding of P&L management, budgeting, and financial forecasting. Ability to manage operations to meet profitability targets.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Technology Savvy: Experience with operational management software, ERP systems, and modern construction technologies.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in business, construction management, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
