Director of Marketing and Communication


Objective: The Director of Marketing and Communication is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive range of marketing initiatives to promote the school, increase enrollment, and enhance its public image. The Director will effectively communicate the compelling story of Hill School to attract new students, retain current families, and increase fundraising.


This position requires the ability to integrate and implement a dynamic engagement program through positioning key messages by generating creative content, composing and editing written communications, managing media relations, leveraging social media, initiating stakeholder outreach, and planning and facilitating events.

·      Reports to: Head of School

·      Full-time position. Typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, 8 am to 4 pm, but should allow flexibility.

·      Benefits package provided; Compensation commensurate with experience and education.


Primary Responsibilities:

·      Ensure that all of Hill School’s communication and engagement initiatives align with and strengthen the school’s mission, vision, programs, and partnerships.

·      Design, steward, and implement ongoing marketing initiatives including brochures, digital ads, journal ads, mailers, and email campaigns.

·      Collaborate with our marketing agency partner to monitor, analyze, and report on all digital marketing initiatives including paid search, SEO, programmatic campaigns, and paid social media.

·      Deploy and manage a wide range of internal and external communications, including:

  • Printed publications; including brochures, annual reports, fact sheets, etc.
  • Social media and website; blog, weekly e-newsletter, Facebook and Instagram
  • Public relations, local advertising, and promotional activities
  • Video/photography productions

·  Collaborate with the Director of Enrollment to develop and execute the enrollment plan to align with Hill School advancement efforts.

·      Develop and manage positive and effective relationships with all stakeholders, including current and former families.

·      Present marketing reports and planned initiatives to Hill School’s Board of Trustees on a monthly basis.

·      Plan and facilitate meetings with the Marketing Committee.

·      Work as an active team member to support all school efforts.


Characteristics and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required. The Director of Marketing & Communication should possess a zeal for storytelling and must have the ability to think innovatively, creatively, and strategically. This person must be energetic and enthusiastic with a customer service and marketing mindset. This person will need to be accessible, approachable, and have a good sense of humor. The ideal applicant must also work well with children, ages 5 – 18.


This position has the opportunity to inform and influence marketing and communication initiatives across a broad spectrum of external audiences and internal constituent groups. As such, the ideal candidate will have multidisciplinary skills and experience, including:

·        Expertise in strategic social media planning and implementation

·        Media and public relations

·        Videography and photography

·        Writing experience for a variety of audiences and media

·        Demonstrable publications management and budgeting
