Opportunity to join an established immigration law firm and fight the good fight for immigrants. The Law Offices of Carol L. Edward & Associates, P.S., an award-winning immigration law firm, is seeking an experienced and dedicated associate attorney to join our team in our Mount Vernon office.
As an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Carol L. Edward & Associates, P.S., you will work closely alongside our attorneys and staff to provide high-quality legal services. You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including conduct consultations with clients, interviewing and counseling, preparing and filing immigration petitions, and direct representation before the immigration courts and agencies. Our firm works with all aspects of immigration law and represents individuals and businesses who need assistance navigating the legal hurdles.
This opening is for our Mount Vernon office. Available immediately, F/T, compensation DOE, benefits. This position is primarily in-person, but the possibility for some remote work can be discussed with the managing partner.
Requirements:
- Active bar license in good standing with any U.S. state or Puerto Rico;
- We will consider applicants who are pending bar passage results expected in September 2024;
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school;
- Minimum 1 year of experience in immigration law;
· Prior experience working in immigration law preferred, but if you have volunteer experience related to immigration, are a quick learner, and willing to put in the extra effort required to learn immigration law, we are open to discussing this opportunity with you;
- Bilingual (English/Spanish);
- Detail-oriented, organized, a great communicator, team member, self-starter and passionate about immigration law;
- Ability to independently handle a heavy caseload, effectively delegate tasks to paralegals/legal assistants, consistently meet deadlines, and be available to clients and colleagues;
- Ability to provide trauma-informed and culturally appropriate client representation;
- Ability to travel to/from immigration court, USCIS, and occasionally other locations.
Responsibilities:
- Meet with potential new clients and existing clients;
- Coordinate case and legal strategy, including client interviewing and counseling;
- Manage heavy caseload, paralegals/legal assistants, projects, and competing deadlines;
- Prepare and revise case documents;
- Represent clients before USCIS, EOIR, and BIA;
- Write motions, briefs, and memoranda;
- Conduct legal research;
- Maintain strong working knowledge of policies, practices, legislative changes, and case law related to immigration law; and
- Train and supervise staff.
