We are seeking a Laboratory Technician to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD. This is an on-site position.

Overview:

The purpose of this position is to perform RNA and DNA extractions and quality control for Long-read sequencing.


Technical Requirements:

Biologist

  • Perform library preparation of samples for long-read DNA and RNA sequencing
  • Determine when modifications and adjustments are necessary for experiments.
  • Provide support to laboratory staff in establishing and optimizing SOPs and protocols for processing long-read data
  • Identify pitfalls in the original choice of methods or experimental direction and redirect the study to achieve improved results.
  • Assist in establishing and optimizing DNA and RNA isolation protocols for cell, blood and tissue samples for long read sequencing
  • Provide a broad range of technical assistance to laboratory members
  • Analyzes, documents and reports on all procedures performed and produces detailed reports for use by senior staff.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and calibrating various laboratory equipment and instruments.
  • Trains staff in performing routine laboratory tests and procedures.
  • Provides insights and expertise and recommends new strategies and approaches.



Specific Qualifications:

  • Minimum BS degree in biology or related discipline required, MS preferred
  • Minimum 1-3 years of related work experience is required.
  • 2-3 years of experience performing RNA and DNA extractions and quality control for Long-read sequencing preferred.
