SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Head of Physical Development (Sports Science/Strength & Conditioning), the Performance Scientist applies scientific principles to enhance athletic performance and support the physical development of San Diego FC athletes. This role involves conducting research, analyzing performance data, and implementing evidence-based strategies to improve training, recovery, and overall athletic performance.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct performance testing and monitoring to assess athletes' physical capacities and progress.
  • Assist the development and implementation of evidence-based training programs tailored to the specific needs of San Diego FC athletes.
  • Analyze performance data using sports science technologies to provide insights for optimizing training and recovery.
  • Collaborate with coaches, medical staff, and strength and conditioning specialists to design integrated training plans.
  • Research and apply the latest advancements in sports science to enhance performance and reduce injury risk.
  • Educate athletes and staff on scientific principles related to performance, recovery, and injury prevention.
  • Maintain accurate records of performance metrics, training loads, and recovery data.
  • Provide real-time feedback and recommendations during training sessions and matches.
  • Stay current with sports science research and advancements to ensure best practices are applied.
  • Support the development of a data-driven approach to athlete management and performance enhancement.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates can meet the requirements with a combination of experience in the following areas:


  • Bachelor/Master’s degree in exercise science or related field.
  • Professional certification from a recognized body (CSCS, NSCA, ASCA)
  • CPSS certification.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • 3+ years’ experience in elite sports.
  • Extensive experience in data visualization with PowerBI or similar.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish/English) or multi-lingual skills is a plus.
