Position Overview: Camp Sewataro is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to lead camp's boating program as the Head Boating Instructor. The ideal candidate will have a passion for outdoor adventure and water sports, along with a commitment to safety, fun, and skill development.

Responsibilities:

  1. Program Leadership: Lead and oversee all aspects of the camp's boating program, including canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP).
  2. Safety Management: Ensure the safety of campers and staff during all boating activities by implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures. Conduct regular safety inspections of equipment and facilities.
  3. Skill Instruction: Teach campers of varying skill levels the fundamentals of canoeing, kayaking, and SUP, focusing on proper technique, water safety, and navigation.
  4. Activity Planning: Develop engaging and age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that align with the camp's philosophy of "play safe, make it fun, and teach the skills."
  5. Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance, repair, and inventory of all boating equipment, including canoes, kayaks, paddles, life jackets, and other gear.
  6. Activity Counselors are also assigned to a group. During morning arrival, lunch, and at the end of the day, the Activity Counselor joins the group and works with the Group Leader to provide support for the campers.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience leading or instructing boating activities, preferably in a camp or outdoor education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of canoeing, kayaking, and SUP techniques, safety procedures, and equipment.
  • Current certification in lifeguarding, CPR, and First Aid (or willingness to obtain before camp season).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with campers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and a positive, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to changing situations in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Information:

  • This is a seasonal position, with employment running from June 24th to August 16th, with the possibility of pre-season training.
  • Camp Sewataro is located in a beautiful natural setting in Sudbury MA, providing a picturesque backdrop for outdoor adventures and water-based activities.
