Responsibilities

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and testing of solar power plant commissioning projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet environmental standards.
  • Work closely with EPC contractors, engineers, equipment suppliers, utilities, and transmission operators to develop comprehensive commissioning plans and address any challenges that arise.
  • Perform system walkdowns and validation checks to confirm project deliverables meet quality and performance standards before handover to plant operations.
  • Ensure all commissioning work is carried out safely, efficiently, and according to the project timeline.
  • Manage commissioning schedules and budgets, ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Proactively identify potential risks in commissioning processes and implement effective mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements in all commissioning activities.
  • Lead and support team members through hands-on management and mentorship.
  • Bring expertise in DCS, SCADA, fiber optics, PLC, and MODBUS communication systems.
  • Apply multidisciplinary commissioning experience to utility-scale solar energy projects.
  • Complete required certifications, such as OSHA 30, CPR/BLS/First Aid, and NFPA 70E, within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Leverage experience in substation commissioning and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
  • Design detailed energization plans that integrate solar farms with substations for seamless operation.


Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • At least 3 years of experience in commissioning of power generation facilities, including solar and energy storage projects
  • Advanced knowledge of NETA, NERC, IEEE, NFPA70E, and industry test requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems and electrical safety for systems up to 1500V DC and 230KV AC
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, renewables/electric utility P&C systems (relaying, communication, networking, RTU, SCADA, CT, PT), and planned outage management processes
  • Experience and knowledgeable on various utility scale inverter manufacturers - SMA, Power Electronics, Tmeics, and Sun Grow
  • Strong project management, leadership, and communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of appropriate regulatory requirements
  • Prior experience managing a team of commissioning professionals
