The Director of Finance provides leadership to ensure the club has the appropriate operational controls and reporting procedures to grow the organization along with ensuring financial strength and operating efficiency. Responsible for all accounting & finance functions of the club including financial records and auditing procedures.

 

The Director of Finance reports directly to the GM/COO and oversees the Accounting Manager and Accounting Clerk. The Director of Finance will work closely with the Senior Leadership team to develop and implement the club’s strategic plan. The Director of Finance will also assist the club’s Treasurer in performing the duties as specified in the club bylaws.

 

Finance Reporting and Oversight

·      Ensure the accurate and timely distribution of financial reports including, but not limited to, monthly financial statements, annual audits, and budgets.

·      Responsible for general accounting practices including journal entry, general ledger account reconciliation, bank account reconciliation, cash flow and maintaining organization budget.

·      Manage and facilitate activities of credit card payable & revenue accounts reconciliation.

·      Facilitate disbursement activities ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable & receivable, petty cash, expense reports, cash control, quarter and year-end payroll closing including federal and state reports.

·      Ensure tax compliance including the accurate and timely completion of all tax returns.

·      Assist with escalated billing and collections inquiries from members or vendors.

·      Manage and conduct internal audits along with compiling data for external auditors.

·      Responsible for annual city taxes and license renewals.

·      Create and maintain productive banking and insurance relationships to serve as a point of contact with related third parties.

·      Identify and resolve issues in a timely manner, gather and analyze information skillfully while developing solutions.

·      Collaborate with other departments to align financial strategies with overall organizational goals.

 

IT Oversight

·      Oversee relationships with service providers, ensuring contracts are beneficial and expenses are justified.

·      Identify and mitigate financial risks associated with IT projects, including cybersecurity threats and compliance issues.

·      Conduct assessments on possible upgrades and determine the return on investment.

·      Ensure business IT needs are being fulfilled and issues are escalated.

·      Ensure business IT operations contingency plans are in place.

 

Club’s Preservation Foundation

·      Oversight of the club’s 501c3 foundation’s financials including grant management.

·      Understand the cash flow and prepare budgets for club preservation projects.

·      Ensure full compliance with IRS regulations.

 

Strategy and Recommendations:

·      Provide insights and recommendations for enhancing financial performance and achieving organizational objectives.

·      Establish and maintain systems and controls which verify the integrity of all processes and data.

·      Understanding of risk management and insurance protection.

·      Evaluate and advise on financial risks and opportunities, ensuring alignment with the organization’s goals.

·      Provide expert recommendations on financial strategies, investments, and resource allocation.

·      Advise and guide department leaders on best practices, budgets and record keeping.

·      Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to enhance financial stability and transparency.

 

Long-Term Financial Planning

·      Advice, create and execute long term financial strategic plan.

·      Analyze and present financials in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly and annual financial statements.

·      Participate and oversee all financial projects.

·      Develop financial planning for club construction, renovation, or capital projects.

 

Modeling and Forecasting

·      Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning.

·      Prepare regular financial forecasts and analyses to guide organizational decision-making.

·      Monitor and analyze financial performance against projections and benchmarks.

·      Assess, create, and implement streamlined solutions to support operational effectiveness and provide timely and accurate reporting.

 

Qualifications

·      Education: Bachelor's Degree from a four-year university with a concentration in Finance, Accounting, or Business and CPA Certification preferred

·      At least 7 years in a financial leadership role, preferably in the club/hospitality industry.

·      Experience in a non-profit or knowledge of financial regulations and compliance items.

·      Proficiency with finance/accounting software & club software such as NorthStar or similar

·      Full knowledge of GL, AP/AR, payroll, taxes, internal controls, and budgeting.

·      Excellent communication with the ability to convey financial concepts to stakeholders.

·      High level of proficiency in financial software and tools (e.g., Excel, financial modeling).

 

Physical Requirements

·      Must be able to sit for extended periods of time, up to 8 hours.

·      Must be able to look at a computer screen for up to 8 hours.

·      Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 35lbs occasionally.
