Field Services Technician III

As a member of the Field Services team, this role provides 24/7 predictive and corrective maintenance support. The ideal candidate will have experience working with fiber-optic cabling and equipment and be proficient in using intermediate to advanced diagnostic tools. This role requires a strong ability to diagnose and resolve equipment failures, read and understand schematics, and configure and troubleshoot tolling systems with minimal supervision.

This role is also responsible for performing regularly scheduled preventive maintenance which includes inspections, repairs, adjustments, tuning and replacement of parts and components comprising the Electronic Toll Collection System as well as performing unscheduled maintenance in response to automated alerts and notifications from the Electronic Toll Collection System. Superior writing and communication skills are required, as unscheduled maintenance is classified, tracked, and reported.


The Field Services Technician III needs to have a strong technical background, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues, supervise maintenance team resources, and ensure systems remain fully operational. This role requires a proactive individual who can make critical decisions and provide training to junior technicians.

This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Remove, reinstall, and configure tolling components and equipment
  • Comprehend and utilize maintenance documents
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic equipment
  • Understand and diagnose network related issues
  • Receive, interpret, and respond to Nagios Alerts
  • Monitor system performance both on-site and remotely
  • Make critical decisions to ensure systems remain fully operational
  • Review and test firmware updates as needed to fix repetitive issues
  • Have/obtain/maintain certifications & licenses as need is identified (e.g. electrical, mechanical, electronics, network, software)
  • Some domestic travel might be required
  • Work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure after-hours support


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the training of level I and II technicians
  • Act as a back-up for the Supervisor when needed 


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • 2-year degree in a technical field or equivalent formal vocational or military training in an electrical, mechanical, or information technology related discipline in lieu of a degree
  • 2+ years’ experience operating and maintaining electronic toll collection systems that support express lanes or a combination of education, training and job-related experience
  • Knowledge of ticket handling and other CMMS
  • Ability to use Linux and Windows based PCs
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are required 
  • Maintenance experience with PC/Server service, RFID system service and/or Security and Surveillance System service is desired


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: To successfully perform the essential functions of the job, Employee must possess the ability to work in a standard office or conference room setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer. Employee must also possess the ability to work at roadside locations when overseeing or performing hands-on maintenance tasks, including the ability to use maintenance vehicles such as bucket trucks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: A mixture of on-site maintenance work and working out of a local maintenance facility. If work is performed in the office, it is in an air-conditioned building. Potential for high noise level due to proximity to high-speed traffic and equipment rooms. Safety protocols and equipment will be provided as needed to mitigate these types of risks.

  • Required to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Successfully pass a Motor Vehicle Record and background checks, as required
  • Work at heights up to 40 ft utilizing bucket trucks, ladders, or other means
