Position: Power Generation Controls Systems Engineer

Location: Las Vegas, NV (Onsite 5 days/week)

Contract Duration: 12 Months

Client: BHE (specifically Nevada Energy)


Key Responsibilities:

  • Controls Systems Support: Provide engineering design, support, and maintenance for Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Distributed Control Systems (DCS) including Emerson Ovation and GE Mark VI.
  • Operational Technology Solutions: Develop and implement solutions for operational technology issues, manage obsolescence, and advocate for system upgrades.
  • Technical Support: Offer technical direction and project support for power generation control systems. Troubleshoot and resolve issues in collaboration with Operations and technical staff.
  • System Management: Manage and maintain control systems hardware and software, including patching, upgrading, and network management.
  • Collaboration: Work with control system software vendors and internal teams to address escalated issues and implement control system logic, display modifications, and custom functions.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Provide status reports, manage computing infrastructure, and oversee asset inventory.


Required Qualifications:

  1. Power Generation Experience: Proven experience working in Power Generation Facilities or Plants (specifically power generation, not water or other sectors).
  2. Industrial Control Systems (ICS): Hands-on experience with ICS.
  3. Distributed Control Systems (DCS): Experience with DCS, particularly Emerson Ovation (preferred) or GE Mark VI.
  4. Control Systems Hardware: Experience with upgrading, patching, and managing control systems hardware.


Nice-to-Have Skills:

  1. VMware: Knowledge of VMware vSphere, including vSAN, ESXi, and vCenter.
  2. Networking: Familiarity with networking concepts and technologies.
  3. Scripting: Basic scripting skills.


Technical Skills:

  • Server Management: Experience with server hardware and software, including deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and patching.
  • Software and Security: Experience with software related to patching, antivirus management, configuration management, network and system monitoring, and security event monitoring.


Essential Duties:

  • System Support: Provide control system software and hardware support for safe, optimal, and reliable operations.
  • Troubleshooting: Collaborate with Operations for troubleshooting and corrective actions related to instrumentation and programming logic.
  • Control System Development: Develop control system logic and custom functions as needed.
  • Vendor Coordination: Work with vendors for support on escalated issues.
  • User Administration: Manage user accounts and coordinate local and site failovers for maintenance tasks.
  • Testing and Updates: Test and apply security and application updates; assist with applying updates as needed.
  • Infrastructure Management: Oversee installed computing infrastructure and asset inventory.
  • Project Support: Support capital and operations and maintenance projects from business case development to installation and commissioning.


Note: Must be onsite from Day 1 in Las Vegas, NV, and travel to multiple Power Generation Facilities in the Vegas area.
