My client is one of the most reputable transportation / supply chain companies in the industry and they're growing their legal team This person is responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiating transportation, employment, real estate and vendor contracts as well as oversees regulatory, insurance and corporate compliance matters. Additionally, the position oversees compliance with corporate governance and establishes the prudence of defending law suits and prosecuting same.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage legal compliance with states and agencies, including business licensing, state authorities, transportation licensing, including managing outside counsel assisting with areas.
  • Supervise the review and negotiation of leases as well as assistant on the real estate portfolio.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including customer contracts, vendor contracts, and leases and consulting agreements in the normal course of business.
  • Collaborate with Finance, IT and Business Managers on managing overall company risk in areas of insurance, cyber liability, real estate and physical assets.
  • Work in collaboration with the HR Function and other outside counsel to judge the merits of claims filed against the company and works with appropriate management to define the defense and approves settlements of disputes where warranted in general employment areas.
  • Coordinate with in-house Risk Management Group regarding identification of risks and maintenance of adequate coverage through insurance policies.
  • Manage outside counsel representing company on claims and litigation matters, including facilitating information gathering and consistent strategy.


Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in a law firm and/or corporate legal department
  • Law degree and a member in good standing to the Bar of the State of Illinois
  • Proven ability in understanding legal matters such as transportation, property, employment as well as corporate governance and commercial matters like compliance, contracts and employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with management skills and be an effective communicator.
