CMK Select has a non-profit client in Ramsey, NJ who is hiring a Director of Development. The Director of Development will be a strategic thought partner and will report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader and will lead and manage the organization’s fund-raising program.


The selected Director of Development will have a deep passion for non-profit work and feel aligned with the faith-based mission of client. This position works with the CEO to plan and execute development strategies and monitor progress toward goals. The Director of Development assists in positioning the board to cultivate and solicit major gifts and grants from individuals, corporations, foundations, and others, and is responsible for providing leadership.


Duties and Responsibilities:


Leadership:

• Provides leadership and direction to the CEO and Board of Directors in the effective operation of all development activities required to fund all operations and deliver programs.

• Leads and directs a team of Development staff and related volunteers.


Strategic Planning:

• Develops and implements a strategic plan for single and multi-year resource development efforts in collaboration with Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Operating Officer (COO).

• Researches and analyzes agency, corporate, individual and foundation donor base and recommended solicitation strategies.

• Prepares and presents for approval proposals for corporate and foundation support of the programs using cultivation and solicitation materials.

• Oversees planning of logistics for special events, including but not limited to the annual Seasons of the Heart Charity Dinner and Auction Gala, including obtaining sponsorships and solicitation of gifts and preparing related printed materials and publications.

• Designs and implements a social media calendar, appeal campaigns, emails, and annual report.

• Provides support for various fundraising projects/initiatives assigned by CEO, such as grant writing, endowments, major gifts and planned giving.

• Ensures the evaluation of development activities and identify opportunities to improve results.

• Creates, implements and is responsible for all aspects of a major gift program and planned giving.

• Develops and implements a long-range plan for the major gifts program as part of the organization’s strategic planning process. Works with the CEO to assess opportunity and potential.

• Implements and formalizes moves management process, with individual and shared metrics. Work with the team to ensure clarity on MG expectations, tracking, and accountability.

• Manages the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of a portfolio of principal gift prospects and donors ($1,000 and over).

• Identifies, solicits, executes, monitors, and reports new and established grants as it relates to generating external sources of income to support the organization.

Board Development:

• Trains board members to participate in solicitation and other income development activities.

• Encourages and supports board committees responsible for planning and implementing development activities.

Resource Management:

• Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of the annual budget, controls expenditures within budget and oversees the maintenance of donor and financial records in accordance with standards.

• Ensures productive and effective performance by all development staff, volunteers and interns.


Partnership Development:

• Assists the CEO & COO to develop strategic alliances with local churches, the Catholic Diocese, community leaders and local officials. Develops collaborative partnerships with other faith-based and like-minded organizations, members, parents, families, funders, and community organizations.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor Degree in nonprofit management, business administration, communications, marketing, or related field (Master Degree preferred).

• Certifications (e.g., CFRE) are a plus.

• Seven to ten years of fundraising experience with a proven track record.

• Experience in nonprofit sector and leadership roles.

• Network of contacts in the nonprofit sector.

• Fundraising: Major gifts, campaigns, grant writing, events management.

• Donor Relations: Building and maintaining relationships.

• Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills.

• Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing fundraising plans.

• Project Management: Organizing and managing multiple projects.

• Financial Management: Budgeting and planning for fundraising.

• Data Management: Proficiency with Blackbaud’s Raisers Edge donor management software.

• Marketing and PR: Enhancing fundraising efforts and brand awareness.

• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with the highest level of professionalism.

• Willingness to learn and grow with the organization.
