Company Overview:

Our client is a cutting-edge data product company currently being spun out from a parent organization. With a focus on leveraging Databricks’ ecosystem, the company aims to redefine the landscape of Master Data Management (MDM) and big data solutions. The company is backed by $500K in seed funding and actively engaging with design partners, preparing for Series A funding in the next 3-5 months.


Role Overview:

The Vice President of Engineering will lead the technical vision, execution, and team for the company, reporting directly to the CEO. This role blends hands-on engineering leadership (30-40%) with strategic management and customer engagement responsibilities (60-70%). The VP of Engineering will manage a team of 5-6 engineers, ensuring the delivery of scalable, high-performance MDM and data solutions. The role requires expertise in Databricks, MDM technologies, and strong customer-facing communication skills.


Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership:

  • Architect, design, and implement scalable data solutions leveraging Databricks, Spark clustering, Delta Lake, and related big data technologies.
  • Lead the integration of Databricks features to deliver real-time data workflows, robust analytics, and AI/ML-powered capabilities.
  • Ensure high-quality technical execution and adherence to modern engineering best practices.


Team Leadership:

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing engineering team, fostering innovation and a collaborative culture.
  • Drive 0-to-1 product development efforts and scale-up processes, ensuring efficient delivery pipelines.


Customer Engagement:

  • Serve as the technical face of the company in customer meetings and industry events.
  • Lead customer-facing technical discussions, including deployment strategies and addressing complex requirements.


Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to define the technical roadmap and align engineering initiatives with business goals.
  • Contribute to planning for Series A readiness, including scaling team and product capabilities.


Qualifications:


Experience:

  • 10+ years in engineering leadership roles, with 5+ years of experience in managing high-performing teams.
  • Hands-on experience with Databricks workflows, Spark clustering, and big data technologies.
  • Strong understanding of MDM processes, including entity resolution, match/merge rules, and data governance.
  • Proven ability to thrive in startup environments or small, fast-growing companies.
  • Demonstrated experience scaling teams and processes in preparation for Series A or beyond.


Technical Expertise:

  • Proficiency in Databricks tools such as Delta Lake, Auto Loader, SQL Analytics, and Machine Learning pipelines.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud platforms like AWS and Azure, including scalable architecture design.
  • Strong coding skills, with the ability to contribute directly to engineering efforts.


Soft Skills:

  • Visionary mindset with a high-performance attitude and ability to motivate teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly in customer-facing technical discussions.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to evolving business needs.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience working within Databricks or significant collaboration with Databricks’ ecosystem.
  • Experience working with MDM solutions in industries such as healthcare, retail, or finance.
