Summary:

The Director of Finance is a highly experienced and strategic position who plays a critical role in managing all financial aspects, ensuring effective financial management, regulatory compliance, transparent reporting, and the efficient disbursement of funds to support the Aksarben Foundation and its initiatives such as the NTC, Growing Together, FVA, and others. This position requires a proactive financial leader with a deep understanding of budgeting, auditing, compliance with state and federal regulations, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple stakeholders to achieve the Foundation’s objectives.


Financial Management and Oversight:

  • Develop and implement the overall financial strategy and policies for the Foundation ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Manage all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, grant disbursements, and financial reporting, ensuring accuracy and adherence to state and federal grant regulations.
  • Establish and maintain strong financial controls, processes and systems for effective tracking, allocation, and utilization of funds.
  • Responsible for financial reporting and donor/stakeholder stewardship.


Grant Disbursement and Administration:

  • Oversee the disbursement process of grants ensuring timely, transparent, and accurate distribution of scholarship, community grant, and any other funds.
  • Develop and implement efficient payment processing systems that adhere to State and Federal guidelines and compliance standards.
  • Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with the approved budget and all applicable federal and state regulations.

Human Resources and Payroll:

  • Oversee human resources functions, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Manage payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely payroll for all employees, including payroll tax reporting and compliance.


Compliance and Financial Reporting:

  • Ensure full compliance with state and federal regulations and relevant guidelines.
  • Provide detailed financial reports to Foundation leadership and other stakeholders when appropriate, ensuring transparency, accuracy, and adherence to reporting timelines.
  • Coordinate external audits and internal financial reviews, address any findings, implement recommendations, and maintain a strong internal control environment.


Budgeting and Financial Analysis:

  • Develop and monitor annual and multi-year budgets for the Foundation and its various initiatives, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and funding requirements.
  • Provide ongoing financial analysis and forecasts to ensure informed decision-making, risk management, and long-term sustainability planning.
  • Conduct financial modeling and analysis to assess program effectiveness, identify areas for cost savings, and recommend strategies for optimizing the use of funds.


Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including program managers, government agencies, auditors, and community partners to ensure efficient financial operations and compliance.
  • Serve as main point of contact for the Aksarben Finance Committee and on any financial matters related to the Foundation.


Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics:


Knowledge Of:

  • General accounting and financial reporting procedures, including state contract/grant, federal compliance requirements, and auditing standards.
  • Employee benefits management including health care and retirement plans, payroll reporting and processing.
  • Strong proficiency in financial management software (QuickBooks, Bill.com, etc.) and general office software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite.


Ability To:

  • Manage and oversee all aspects of the financial/accounting management functions.
  • Create, analyze, and report on financial statements and budgets.
  • Communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to a wide range of stakeholders, including program managers and auditors.
  • Work well with and be responsive to the needs of internal and external stakeholders including Board, business partners, and donors.
  • Analyze and solve problems effectively, manage priorities, adapt to changing funding landscapes, and assimilate new information and technology.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field (Master’s degree or CPA/CMA a plus).
  • Five to seven years of senior accounting and finance management experience.
  • Proven experience in managing large-scale budgets and financial operations within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

  • Must be highly ethical with high level of integrity; self-motivated; dependable and reliable; detail oriented; able to easily and effectively work with staff, Board, and volunteers.
  • Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs, carrying up to 20-pounds and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office equipment.
