Brown Water Marine Service, Inc. is seeking an experienced Safety and Compliance Manager. This role is critical in providing expert knowledge and oversight of the company’s Safety Management System and ensuring regulatory compliance throughout the organization.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

· Ensure compliance with all relevant federal regulations governing inland towing vessels and facilities owned and operated by Brown Water Marine Service, Inc.

· Develop, implement and update/evaluate company safety policies and procedures as needed, or as new regulatory information becomes available.

· Perform training and compliance briefs with Brown Water Marine Service, Inc. employees. (this may include onboarding, continuing education, monthly/quarterly/annual training etc.)

· Perform inspections, internal audits, and investigations as needed to meet Company Policy and Federal Policy.

· Responsible for the documentation of all forms, documentation, certifications, certificates, and other items as it pertains to vessel operation.


WORK EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Must possess strong verbal and written English communications skills.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of CFRs, basic industry regulations and relevant leadership experience required. Willingness to learn and the ability to independently research laws, rules and regulations required.
  • Maritime experience highly preferred but not required, the ideal candidate possesses 5 + years of experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record due to insurance requirements.
  • Must be able to board and work on Brown Water Marine Service vessels as required.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC)
  • Must have strong computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Word /Excel and other potential software programs related to the towing and barge industry.
  • Ability to travel and participate in industry conferences, training, and certification courses as required.
  • U.S. Coast Guard experience a plus.
  • The ability to work autonomously with personal initiative is vital to the success of this role.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The Safety and Compliance Manager reports to Brown Water Marine Service Inc.’s office in Ingleside, Texas. The standard office hours are Monday – Thursday 0730-1630 and Friday 0730-1200. This position is required to be available after hours as needed in the event of an emergency.


This position involves work that is sitting, standing, and/or moving from one location to another. While this is a shoreside position, the candidate must be able to board Brown Water Marine Service Inc. vessels and barges through various means such as gangways, ramps, ladders, stairs, etc. to complete audits, training, and other routine responsibilities. Individual may be exposed to loud noise (machinery, operating equipment), seasonal weather and exert 20-50 pounds of force frequently.
