Optomi, in partnership with our large financial client, is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer skilled in planning, implementing, managing, and maintaining both physical and virtual servers and storage systems within an enterprise environment. Candidates should have extensive expertise in operating systems, virtualization, and optimization, with a strong background in Windows Server and VMware.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain servers (both physical and virtual) and software across local area (LAN) and storage area networks (SAN).
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of storage area networks and their integration in virtualized environments.
- Deploy and manage a robust virtualization host platform that supports at least 90% of the servers used by Michigan First, ensuring inclusion of disaster recovery options.
- Monitor and enhance system performance to support applications and end users, making optimization recommendations as needed.
- Update and maintain team and project documentation, including implementation checklists, diagrams, and disaster recovery plans, as well as manage storage areas and supplies.
- Adhere to incident, problem resolution, and change management procedures, ensuring that system administrators are informed of changes affecting backups or monitoring.
- Be available for on-call duties after hours and on weekends as part of the support team.
- Complete assigned projects in a timely manner, keeping IT leadership updated on progress and challenges.
- Collaborate with IT leadership and team members to identify opportunities for task automation, process improvement, and cost reduction.
- Undertake other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or a technical certificate combined with five or more years of relevant experience.
- Extensive experience with VMware.
- Certification such as MCTS, MCSE, or MCITP.
- Knowledge of ITIL Foundation is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, TCP/IP, and DNS.
- Proficient in desktop, laptop/mobile, and server technologies and their interactions.
- Experience with Windows 11 and Windows Server 2016 and later versions, including installation and support.
- Experience with Microsoft Exchange support and administration for currently supported versions.
- Preferred knowledge of Microsoft Lync and SharePoint.
- Working knowledge of server virtualization technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor, capable of interacting with all levels within the organization and the general public.
- Ability to present information effectively in individual and small group settings to team members and organizational leaders.
- Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritizing effectively, and meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities with a focus on effectiveness, organization, flexibility, self-direction, and urgency.
