Job Title: Quality, Insulation & Refractory Inspector

Schedule: 5/40 (likely to increase to 5x50 as project progresses)

Location: Orange, TX (Per diem available for candidates in the US living more than 50 miles from the site)

Duration: Until project completion (Approximately January 2026)

PTO: 10 days


Overview

Inspect coatings, insulation, and refractory products, including fireproofing. Assist with welding inspections and nondestructive examinations. Ensure relevant requirements are communicated, understood, and fulfilled. Participate in the Quality Management Function within the Ethylene (ETH) Construction Organization overseeing the Contractor Group to ensure compliance, timely delivery, budget adherence, and safe operation of facilities. Occasional domestic travel may be required.


Responsibilities

  • Ensure the success of the Contractor Group and Project.
  • Inspect consumables, storage, handling, and materials identification.
  • Verify environmental conditions, surface preparation, and application of coatings and insulation.
  • Participate in system/work package activities and verify conformity before acceptance.
  • Inspect and maintain production, measurement, and test equipment.
  • Review records for accuracy and traceability.
  • Promote and practice safety.
  • Champion project goals and ensure planned objectives are met.
  • Assist with quality auditing and reporting.
  • Implement risk-based thinking and corrective actions to address nonconformities.
  • Control nonconformities and maintain status records.
  • Resolve quality issues and improve deficiencies.
  • Maintain good relationships and manage conflicts amicably.
  • Liaise with project personnel to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Practice self-accountability and report quality management activities.


Qualifications

  • 10+ years of inspection experience in surface preparation, insulation, and coatings.
  • Experience on projects with a CAPEX value > USD 250 million in chemical, petrochemical, refining, or similar industries.
  • Knowledge of fabrication, construction, installation, and inspection of equipment, piping, and steel structures.
  • AMPP Senior Certified Coatings Inspector or Certified Coatings Inspector certification [MANDATORY].
  • API 936 Refractory Personnel certification [MANDATORY].
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent certification [PRIORITIZED].
  • Certified NDT Level II or III [PRIORITIZED].
  • Other relevant industry certifications.
  • Ability to work professionally, respect others, handle pressure, and work outside normal hours if needed.
  • Capability to read and understand technical documents and drawings.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ASME B31.1/B31.3 and NFPA 13/24.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team, prioritize tasks, and manage risks.
  • Good communication skills; Spanish or other Latin language skills are a plus.


Authority

  • Perform inspections according to contract requirements and supervisor directions.
  • Determine fulfillment of relevant requirements.
  • Pause work for identified unsafe or nonconforming conditions or unacceptable risks.
