Job Description:


The MEP Inspector is responsible for on-site observation, daily reporting, and coordination of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems during the construction phase of projects. This role requires full-time monitoring and coordination of testing and inspection services. Preferred candidates will have experience in aviation, light-rail, heavy-rail, and transportation systems inspections, with a strong emphasis on light-rail stations and underground MEP systems.


Key Responsibilities:


Field Support

  • Possess advanced knowledge of MEP systems, including commercial MEP construction installation methods, materials, products, testing, system integration, inspection requirements, building code compliance, and specialty life safety systems.
  • Visit construction sites and inspect each stage of construction up to completion.
  • Interpret plans, specifications, and codes, ensuring contract work is performed accordingly. Assist in obtaining approved designs and permits from utility companies for services to construction sites.
  • Prepare Non-Conformance Reports when work is not performed to the approved standards. Maintain daily activity logs and reports.
  • Prepare reports on labor, material, and equipment on-site.
  • Ensure construction conforms to plans and specifications; issue Non-Conformance Reports for corrective action if not.
  • Assist in maintaining, supporting, and promoting a safe work environment while complying with LA Metro’s safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate preparation of inspection cost estimates and maintenance records.
  • Arrange, coordinate, and oversee technical inspections such as electrical and mechanical for conformance to specification requirements.
  • Allocate inspection resources and supervise inspectors as needed.
  • Coordinate with inspection, testing, utility agencies, and other relevant parties.
  • Oversee electrical work on distribution systems, substation installations, and various rail station locations (including four stations).
  • Monitor construction schedules of MEP trades.
  • Light rail experience preferred.


Reports

  • Ability to write clear and effective reports and can work with Microsoft Office and other computer software and applications including Prolog & VEOs


Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience, abilities, attributes, and skills:


  • Minimum of 5-10 years experience as an MEP inspector.
  • MEP related certifications and/or trade license in state of California preferred:
  • ICC – Electrical Commercial
  • ICC – Mechanical Commercial
  • ICC – Plumbing Commercial


And/Or:

  • C10 License
  • Certified General Electrician


  • Self-directed, organized, strong team player, flexibility to work with multiple changing priorities.
  • Proven understanding and experience in scheduling, estimating, budgeting, and quality control.
  • Availability to work night shifts or Saturday mornings for some construction activities.
  • Ability to manage conflict, complexity, and problem-solve issues to resolution.
  • Proficient in computer literacy (Word, Excel, E-Mail).
  • OSHA 10-hour and OSHA 30-hour certifications.
  • Ability to pass a background check (public agencies may require personnel to be badged and background-checked to obtain a badge).
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively correspond with project teams, vendors, consultants, and partners.
  • Availability to work night shifts or Saturday mornings for some construction activities


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience with advanced diagnostic tools and software for MEP systems.
