The Sr. Specialist - Quality Assurance & Food Safety is responsible for leading all aspects of Acme Smoked Fish Corporation’s food safety and quality programs. This role ensures that all products meet food safety, customer, federal and state compliance.


What You Will Do At Acme:

  • Lead the continuing development, implementation, and management of all aspects of the Acme Smoked Fish Food Safety & quality Assurance program. Includes, but not limited to, maintaining SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures), SSOP's (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures), documentation and product specification for all product lines.
  • Support the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager with the implementation of process evaluation and trend analysis regarding food quality and food safety.
  • Responsible as a lead role for the regulatory food quality and food safety.
  • Lead the company's GFSI continuous improvement plan for target areas for improvement.
  • Support, as necessary, sanitation related tasks including management and supervision of cleaning personnel, working with chemical suppliers, controlling chemical usage, and in general, ensuring that the facility and equipment are safe from potential food safety hazards.
  • Be a participating member of the HACCP team, responsible for review of HACCP program documentation (data entry, document reviewing, filing, CCP monitoring records, procedure development, calibrations, etc.).
  • Support the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and food safety standards issued by FDA and other federal, state, and local agencies involved with food safety activities.
  • Maintain up to date records for compliance with federal, state, CACCP regulation.
  • Support the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager with ongoing employee training activities designed to keep employees knowledgeable and informed of SOP's, methods, and Good Manufacturing Procedures according to program needs.
  • Works with plant supervisors to ensure compliance with SOP's and GMP's.
  • Lead and support, as necessary, the environmental and product testing program including ongoing laboratory testing of environment, raw materials, and finished goods.
  • Perform projects as required by the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Manager and Sr. Quality Assurance and Corporate Manager.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Lead a culture of quality and food safety.
  • Lead a team of skilled technical staff.
  • Train to advance knowledge across key teams (production staff, maintenance, management, sanitation teams).
  • Provide constructive and timely performance feedback to direct reports.
  • Handle discipline of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Act as a champion of the company’s core values and lead by example for direct and indirect reports.



Your Education & Experience:

  • 5+ years in food manufacturing setting required, with 3+ years in a Technical & Qualify function preferred.
  • B.S. in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field.
  • Experience working within an FDA or USDA regulated facility.



Your Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Spanish a plus.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects. simultaneously. Must pay meticulous attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in diverse groups and ability to influence others.

  • Must have excellent computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Publisher, & PowerPoint.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Must pay meticulous attention to detail.

  • Completion of training programs as assigned and/or required including standard of work.
  • Knowledge or certification of USFDA’s Seafood HACCP Guidelines a plus.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and food safety standards, including third party standards such as GFSI (BRC and SQF).
  • Completion of training programs as assigned and/or required including standard of work.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to spend up to 80% of time in manufacturing plant environment.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with the body, arms or legs to perform job tasks.
  • Must be able to reach above and below shoulder height to move product. This includes the ability to move throughout all areas of the facility.
  • Ability to climb stairs
  • The ability to lift, push, pull, or carry objects using hands, arms, back, abdominal muscles, shoulders, legs, or a combination of these muscle groups.
  • The ability to wear all necessary personal protective equipment to perform job duties.
  • The ability to work in cold (32 to 45°F) and wet environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
