Studio KDA is a forward-thinking design firm specializing in multifamily housing, retail, place making and restaurant design. We are known for engaging, thoughtful design, high level of service to our clients and a highly enjoyable and supportive work environment. This position requires presence in our Berkeley, CA office.


Responsibilities

We have an immediate need for a self-motivated, junior-level designer to assist in all phases of production from feasibility studies to construction documents. Responsibilities include:

Design and Technical Development

  • Assist in translating design concepts into buildable solutions.
  • Participate in design discussions and provide input based on project goals.

Modeling and Documentation

  • Develop and maintain accurate Revit models for multifamily, retail and hospitality projects.
  • Produce construction drawings, including plans, sections, elevations, and details.
  • Coordinate Revit models with structural, MEP, and other consultants.
  • Research materials and systems relevant to multifamily design.

Building Code and Technical Learning

  • Study and apply relevant building codes and accessibility standards (e.g., ADA, FHA).
  • Work with senior architects to address code compliance issues in designs.
  • Learn about zoning requirements specific to multifamily housing.

Construction Administration Support

  • Assist with responses to RFIs (Requests for Information) during construction.
  • Help update models and drawings based on changes during construction.

Team Collaboration

  • Work closely with project architects, consultants, and contractors.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to project coordination efforts.

Learning and Growth

  • Attend training and mentoring sessions
  • Take on increasing responsibilities as skills and knowledge develop.

Documentation and Organization

  • Organize and maintain project files and documentation.
  • Assist in preparing client presentations and submissions.


Qualifications

Candidates must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in architecture
  • 2 - 3 years of experience
  • Experience with Revit, SketchUp, Excel, Word, and Adobe CS in an office environment
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks to be completed
  • Excellent organizational and written communication skills
  • Enthusiastic and collaborative attitude toward learning and ability to design within a wide range of challenges and project types.
