Customs Clearance Specialist – Freight Forwarding
Location: New York
Key Responsibilities:
- Customs Clearance Management: Lead the preparation and submission of customs documentation, including entry filings, duty calculations, and compliance documentation, to ensure accurate and timely clearance.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay current on customs regulations, tariffs, and compliance requirements, ensuring all customs activities align with applicable laws and policies.
- Client Advisory Services: Offer expert guidance on customs matters such as classification, valuation, and country-of-origin requirements, empowering clients to navigate customs requirements confidently.
- Issue Resolution: Efficiently manage any customs-related issues or delays, collaborating with clients, carriers, and government agencies to resolve challenges promptly.
- Documentation Auditing: Perform regular audits of customs entries and associated documentation to maintain accuracy, adherence to regulatory standards, and identify areas for compliance improvement.
- Training and Support: Educate both internal teams and clients on customs compliance protocols, providing resources and support for best practices in customs procedures.
- Stakeholder Relationship Management: Build and sustain positive relationships with customs officials, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to facilitate seamless customs processing.
- Process Optimization: Identify and implement strategies to streamline customs clearance procedures, enhance efficiency, and reduce costs for clients.
Qualifications:
- Industry Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in customs brokerage or freight forwarding, with a proven track record in customs compliance.
- Specialized Knowledge: Thorough understanding of customs regulations, tariffs, and the complete import/export process.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively engage with clients, regulatory agencies, and team members.
- Problem-Solving Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in resolving customs issues with a solutions-oriented approach, even under tight deadlines.
- Attention to Detail: High level of precision and accuracy in managing customs documentation and compliance activities.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in customs brokerage software and MS Office applications for efficient documentation and compliance tracking.
