Sr System Administrator Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior System Administrator to join our team. This individual will be responsible for providing top-tier support to end-users, managing servers, systems, and endpoints, and ensuring the overall health and performance of our IT infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in system administration, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-User Support:
  • Provide advanced technical support to end-users, resolving hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Assist users with installation, configuration, and ongoing usability of system hardware and software.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights in Active Directory and other systems.
  • Server and System Management:
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, including operating systems and application software.
  • Monitor server performance and maintain system security according to company standards.
  • Perform regular system maintenance, including software updates, patches, and backups.
  • Manage virtualization environments, including VMware and Hyper-V.
  • Endpoint Management:
  • Create & Capture ‘Golden Image’ of Desktop Workstations to produce Configuration Standards, & minimize support time spent building/rebuilding user workstations
  • Deploy and manage desktops, laptops, and mobile devices.
  • Ensure endpoint security and compliance with company policies.
  • Implement and manage endpoint management solutions, such as SCCM, Intune, or JAMF.
  • Network and Security:
  • Support network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, and IDS/IPS.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and vulnerability scans.

  • Project Management:
  • Lead and participate in IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new technology implementations.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members and departments to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Document project plans, technical specifications, and progress reports.
  • Documentation and Training:
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of IT systems, processes, and procedures.
  • Provide training and support to end-users on new technologies and system upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge base articles for common issues and solutions.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in system administration or a similar role.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in Windows and Linux server administration.
  • Prior experience delivering a full cycle O365/M365 
  • Strong Experience (5-7 yrs) with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
  • Strong knowledge of networking concepts and equipment (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
  • Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with endpoint management tools (SCCM, Intune, JAMF).
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation and task management (a plus, but not required)
  • Soft Skills:
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to assist in projects both inside & outside of the office (client locations) 
  • Understanding of the mechanics of Project Delivery in the field
  • Ability & Willingness to provide Technical Guidance/Mentorship to fellow Teammates

  • Microsoft Certifications, (Azure, M365, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator)
  • CompTIA Certifications: Server+, Network+, Security+
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
  • ITIL Foundation
  • Linux familiarity a plus but not required
