Senior Buyer is responsible for the company Procurement Strategy and its effective implementation. The Sr. Buyer is also responsible for developing and implementing policies covering the selection of suppliers, performance measurement, commodity purchase and related internal and external liaison with business areas and key suppliers. Also responsible for providing business unit support, including requests for quotation, new product launch development, leading early supplier involvement. Interacts and works with Engineering, Production and Quality Departments.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the development of a company wide Category Purchase Strategy for commodities.
  • Managing strategic relationships with key suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain measurements of key Suppliers for the purpose of tracking their performance.
  • Supporting the revisions of contract requirements and ensuring requirements are met.
  • Management and assessment of key risks on behalf of the Procurement Division.
  • Development of internal schedules and planning and scheduling requirements by vendor on a given project (determine number of vendors required, and weekly/ monthly production requirements)
  • Understand the capacity and capabilities of the production floor to assess viability of new projects. Must perform regular audits regarding manufacturing capacity, size of workforce & production specifications of the organization.
  • Pursue improvements initiatives with Suppliers such as cost reductions, reduced lead times, increased responsiveness, flow programs & quality.
  • As needed, provide support to new product programs to achieve objectives in cost, performance, quality, while meeting contract specifications.
  • Oversees proper production control planning and scheduling to meet customer requirements.
  • Provide purchasing support.
  • Maintain controlled inventory levels with the support of the operations group.
  • Execute purchase orders to ensure material is delivered to meet the company's production goals. Ensure timely performance of suppliers to meet the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Works closely with manufacturing to ensure resources are in place to meet production plans and sales projection.
  • Contact suppliers and assist quality in supplier survey certification. Work with engineer to develop new supply resources.
  • Support improvement of supplier launch procedures to minimize inventory obsolescence and support lean manufacturing needs in alignment with operational expectations.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A strong proven track-record in leading major procurement exercises and/or contract development work and/or developing suppliers.
  • A proven track-record in making a significant contribution towards developing and improving the procurement function.
  • Computer literacy using Microsoft Office products, such as, Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.
  • AS or BS degree in business or related major.
  • 5+ years previous experience in manufacturing buying (Steel, raw materials, ballistic material experience is a plus) or equivalent combination of education and experience. Associate's degree in Business/Supply Chain preferred.
  • Must have experience with EAR/MRP systems - Epicor experience preferred
  • Understands Bill of Material / Routings structure
  • Organizational and administrative skills.
  • Must be able to work with little direction or supervision, be self-motivated.
  • Strong leadership skills and team player with demonstrated ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate engineering drawings and specifications
  • Proven ability to negotiate with suppliers, engineers, managers, and related; have ability to make reasonable decisions quickly; be a team player to get best economics and quality as an end target.
