Position: VM Administrator

Work Location: On-Site (Ft. Liberty, NC)

Clearance: Must have verifiable minimum DoD Secret Clearance


Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Designs, deploys, manages, and serves as primary expert for the VMWare and server environments.
  • Installs, tests, configures, secures, manages, and monitors VMWare clusters across multiple data centers (IPN/DRC)
  • Supervises storage arrays handling VDC and VM workloads across entire virtual infrastructure.
  • Collaborates with the network and security teams to provision and safeguard the security of virtual network fabric and distributed switches.
  • Utilizes machine management to scale servers and services for both physical and virtual environments.
  • Manage, deploy, troubleshoot, and support physical and virtual servers.
  • Sets up POC and productions solutions.
  • Utilizing the Change Management process, applies changes and upgrades to the vSphere environment as needed.
  • Works with cross-functional teams to design and implement virtual solutions for the deployment of applications.
  • Creates processes and procedures for building new and upgrading servers, and completing routine, repeatable tasks.
  • Develops comprehensive test cases to include scenarios for normal and degraded operations.
  • Coordinates within functional and cross-functional teams to apply expertise in solving problems, growing capabilities, and driving initiatives.
  • Participates in disaster planning, preparation, recovery, and testing as required.
  • Troubleshoots issues with vendors; evaluate vendor products, services, and suggestions.
  • Provides best practice advice and guidance to management and across the enterprise.
  • Provides after-hours support for Infrastructure related emergencies as well occasional weekend maintenance.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Monitor the health of all Hosts and VM objects in vCenter; with that, ensure all vCenter plug-ins are functioning properly.
  • Ensure there are no hardware issues for the VMs or the ESXi hosts.
  • Ensure environments are running at their optimum resource levels (loads properly distributed and not running out of resources)
  • Review backups and create documentation (SOPs) and maintain documentation.
  • Responsible for firmware updates on hosts, patches for ESXis are up to date, VM patches, and VMware Tools are updated.
  • Ensuring the safety and protection of customers’ data
  • Managing the storage and distribution of data within vSphere
  • Entertaining customers’ inquiries and issues
  • Recording the installations, upgrades, and maintenance of systems or software within vSphere
  • Providing support for technical teams
  • Troubleshooting technical or IT related issues within the vSphere environment
  • Ensuring the vSphere environment is in compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides or if the STIG is too stringent, ensure Gov knows why to accept the risk.
