Senior Manager, Power Markets

AVA Energy is partnered with an established player in the Energy space as they search for a Senior Manager to join their team. The successful candidate will have extensive experience across quantitative power market analysis in the context of North American markets, along with proven people leadership experience.


Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for growing a team leading power market fundamentals, commercial analytics and zonal & nodal modeling.
  • Leading a team of Analysts responsible for electricity market modeling and price forecasts across the region.
  • Training and supervising Analysts and Senior Analysts in production cost modeling along with coaching problem solving techniques for these models.
  • Perform portfolio risk analysis to understand future market risk.
  • Oversee long-term resources planning and resource procurement analysis.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the impact of ISO generator interconnection procedures and the everchanging landscape of energy market policy & regulatory affairs.
  • Ability to leverage the results of the fundamental price forecast and succinctly present these findings to internal and external stakeholders, to guide strategic and commercial decisions.


Qualifications:


  • Excellent understanding of power market fundamentals and commodity market and price risks, with at least 8 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Experience in production cost modeling (e.g., PLEXOS, PROMOD, Aurora, EnCompass etc.) is required.
  • Strong understanding of market trends in conventional generation, renewables, energy storage, distributed generation, and transmission development.
  • Proven track-record with people management and growing teams.
  • Programming, database and software skills (VBA, Python, Excel, SQL).
  • Bachelor's degree in an analytical/numerical subject - Engineering, Mathematics, Economics etc. - Master's degree is preferred.
  • Proven ability to perform in high visibility, high growth environments.
  • A natural mentor and leader, with excellent interpersonal skills.
