Position Summary:
Manage the development, maintenance, and application of safety related policies and programs at the local level. Responsible for maintaining compliance with DOSH and OSHA regulations related to fabrication facilities and jobsites. Collaborates with management, shop personnel, and field personnel to promote a safe working environment.
Essential Functions:
Create an environment of education, mentorship, and empowerment to promote employee engagement in the safety culture
Under the guidance of the Director of Safety, enforce occupational safety and health policies and procedures to promote effective safety operations at jobsites and facilities
Ensure a safe jobsite and office workplace by conducting jobsite, facility and equipment use safety audits, including safety training and use of PPE to ensure compliance
- Provide team members with guidance on health and safety and ensure compliance with all industry, local, state, and federal guidelines and regulations
- Conduct new hire orientations, including scheduling and coordinating all needed safety training as it relates to fall protection, forklifts, rough terrain forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, rigging, OSHA 10, OSHA 30, and First Aid/CPR training etc.
- Document and track training, safety documents, safety inspection activities, reports and correspondences for rigging, tailgate topics, safety meetings, etc.
- Create JSSPs, JHAs, and SDS books for all projects and review with field crews
- Conduct safety meetings, audits, and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments
- Lead incident investigations and manage hazard assessment activities by conducting and/or supervising safety inspections
- Order PPE, safety equipment and conduct biannual safety equipment inspections
- Under the guidance of the Director of Safety, assist in creating safety policies and procedures for the following, but not limited to general safety, training, shop machinery, field equipment, and the prevention of COVID-19
- Perform other safety-related duties as assigned
Principal responsibilities:
- Conducting weekly safety inspections, managing, tracking and documenting training, training needs, and ensuring certifications are current to date
- Responsible for the clear articulation of safety vision, objectives, policies, and procedures in order to build and promote a best in class safety culture
- Ensures all work is performed in accordance with OSHA, approved manuals, internal policies, and procedures
- Ensures safety and health training meets the needs of internal and external (client and regulating entities) requirements, so team members can safely perform job functions

Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, passenger use of construction personnel hoists, ability to climb ladders use of hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, sit, talk and hear, stand, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, lift/move up to 50 pounds, wear required PPE and negotiate work areas under construction. Individuals may need to sit or stand periodically for extended periods of time and be subjected to noisy environments. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in in climate weather environments (example: hot, sunny, cold weather, heat or cold in buildings). Due to the geographical scope of the company and its project sites, the position will involve extensive long-distance driving.
Technical Skills: Procore, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Sage 300, MS Office Suite
Qualifications:
- Certified in OSHA 30, OSHA 500 and/or OSHA 510. CHST or STS-C preferred.
- Minimum five years’ experience in construction industry and safety management
- In depth technical knowledge of construction topics related to OSHA, federal, state, and local regulatory standards, and the ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement effective corrective practices.
- High school diploma or equivalent.Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Engineering or related discipline preferred.
