Work Type: Hybrid - Overland Park, KS 66211

Work Hours: 3 days a week onsite (Mon & Tue compulsory, Wed - Thu 1 day is optional)

Duration: 2-month contract (with possible extension)


Job Overview:

  • In this position the Software Engineer would develop/write new code for an existing system at both the embedded and application level.
  • The responsibilities of the Software Engineer is for the software development, bug fixing, and product life cycle engineering for the company's NAVAID and non-radar surveillance products.
  • This software development includes working on embedded software in a Linux/Unix environment.
  • It is important the candidate live to their schedule commitments and produce high quality solutions, they are responsible for their assignments and for working with their product leads if there is some part of functionality not understood.
  • The Software Engineer will report directly to the local Engineering Manager of the company's NAS business segment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs embedded software development in support of navigation aids and non-radar surveillance functionality
  • Performs software development for the processing of VHF RF information
  • Primarily develops embedded software in C
  • Develops Windows based application software in C++
  • Develops software using an Eclipse-based IDE
  • Develops using Code Composer Studio for embedded software and Visual Studio for applications
  • Participates in integration of software and hardware
  • Supports configuration management activities for design qualification testing
  • Utilizes a problem reporting tool to document product issues
  • Participates in peer reviews of system requirements, design, code and tests
  • Provides regular status reports to the software lead

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical subject (e.g. Computer Science or Software Engineering) with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience
  • Is proficient in programming in C and C++
  • Proven experience programming both embedded and Windows application software
  • Has participated in the integration of software design projects
  • Self-motivated, critical thinker with strong curiosity to learn
  • Must be self-starter and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, TI Hercules preferred
  • Experience working through the complete software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Familiar with the use of issue tracking software (e.g. Jira)
  • Familiarity with Navigational Aid RF signal in space functionality

Physical Demands:

  • Typical office environment – no special physical requirements.
