Power Plant Board Operator/Operations Liaison Lead/Supervisor

Contract Duration: 6-12+ months (with potential for full-time conversion)

Location: LaPlace, LA 70068

Shift Schedule: 12-hour rotating shifts on a 3-2-2-3 schedule (rotating days and nights), with an expectation for overtime to cover absences on other shifts.


Position Summary

The Power Plant Board Operator will serve as the designated lead control board operator at a fossil fuel-fired power generation facility. This position requires significant experience in combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) or fossil fuel power generation operations. The operator will ensure the safe and efficient operation of plant equipment while adhering to all safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance standards. The successful candidate will also manage contractor work, maintain regulatory compliance, and play a key role in safety and operational excellence.


Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead operator on shift, providing direction to other team members.
  • Manage safe and reliable plant operation through routine inspections, operational rounds, and control board operation.
  • Coordinate and facilitate Shift Safety meetings and job briefings.
  • Mentor and train other employees, supporting their progression in the operations training plan.
  • Ensure contractor safety compliance and provide orientations as needed.
  • Cover for Team Leaders in their absence and maintain shift coverage during unexpected absences.
  • Oversee start-up and shutdown processes for key equipment, including boilers, turbines, and generators.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, proactively address safety and environmental issues, and conduct site audits.
  • Support plant reliability through a thorough understanding of KPIs, Operational Excellence Index, and MISO/SPP standards.


Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6+ years in an operational or maintenance role at a CCGT or fossil fuel-fired power plant.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as the lead control board operator with responsibility for directing work on shift.
  • Associate degree in Industrial Electronics, Instrumentation/Controls, Production/Process Technology, or equivalent work experience.


Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience, preferably with drum or supercritical units.
  • Prior leadership experience and demonstrated understanding of plant reliability metrics and operational performance drivers.


Desired Skills and Knowledge

  • In-depth knowledge of AC/DC theory, PLC troubleshooting and logic development, process control valve positioners, water chemistry instrumentation, calibration practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in risk management assessments, simulator training, and systems management tools such as PCI/Epower.


Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Lead in developing and reviewing operational procedures and managing the safety protocols for shift operations.
  • Perform and oversee complex instrumentation inspections, diagnostics, testing, and troubleshooting for critical plant systems.
  • Take ownership of contractor management, budget oversight, and safety audits.
  • Participate actively in process improvement initiatives, applying Human Performance tools to enhance operational standards.
