Job Summary: We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Primate Technician to join our team. This role involves the care and management of primates, ensuring their health and well-being. While no formal degree is required, some level of animal experience is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Procedures: perform sample collections on non-human primates, such as injections (intradermal, intravenous, subcutaneous, intramuscular), microbiology swabs; perform measurements of body weight and body condition score
- Health Monitoring: Identify signs of illness or distress and report findings to the lead technician or veterinarian.
- Medical Assistance: Assist with administering medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of animal health, treatments, and daily observations.
- Enrichment Activities: Implement and monitor enrichment activities to promote the physical and mental well-being of the primates.
- Sanitation: Ensure that all equipment are cleaned and sanitized regularly, and no expired items are used
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to ensure the highest standards of animal care.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Some level of experience working with animals is preferred. Experience with primates is a plus but not required.
- Skills: Strong observational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work as part of a team. Good communication skills are essential.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and cleaning.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a similar role or in animal care settings such as veterinary clinics, zoos, research facilities, and animal shelters.
