St Louis, United States Recruits Lab (We're hiring) Full time

Purpose:

The Project BIM Lead is instrumental in authoring, maintaining, and implementing BIM standards and organization-wide workflows. This role involves collaboration with project planners, designers, engineers, and other team members to support complex design projects in the heat transfer and power generation industry. The BIM Lead identifies and creates digital assets to enhance standard libraries.


Policy Setting Responsibilities:

  • Establishes policies related to the BIM modeler’s role and responsibilities.
  • Provides input on policies concerning plant piping and steel design software.


Decision Making / Problem Solving:

  • Leads the implementation and maintenance of BIM policies, procedures, and standards throughout project lifecycles.
  • Manages resources among BIM Modelers to maintain project schedules and ensure high-quality work.
  • Collaborates with Layout Design Coordinators on project-specific decisions.
  • Partners with CAD Development to make software and tool-related decisions.
  • Analyzes BIM Modeler performance and usage reports to identify training needs and provide ongoing coaching for professional development.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises BIM Discipline Coordinators and BIM Modelers.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Directs the BIM group’s efforts to collaborate with project teams, coordinating design details and material BOMs to meet procurement, fabrication, and delivery milestones (55% of the time).
  • Conducts performance management to encourage employees to reach their full potential (15% of the time).
  • Manages the organization-wide implementation of BIM-supporting software, standards, workflows, and research of new BIM-related software (15% of the time).
  • Develops BIM software and departmental processes to improve project quality, versatility, and communication with project teams (15% of the time).


Qualifications:

To excel in this role, an individual must meet the following requirements:


Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of engineering and drafting practices, especially in 3D modeling and presentation of piping and structural steel details. Construction and fabrication knowledge is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, visualization, and management, along with effective communication skills (verbal, written, visual). Knowledge of SQL and Access databases is a plus.

  • Delegation: Effectively delegate tasks, clearly communicate tasks and deadlines, and follow up regularly to ensure task completion.
  • Prioritizing: Identify and prioritize important and urgent tasks, manage daily schedules independently, and communicate priorities clearly to the team.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to a dynamic work environment, remain open to feedback, and apply flexible solutions.
  • Communication & Emotional Intelligence: Excellent communication skills to manage and motivate a diverse team, find common ground, and manage conflicts effectively.
  • Diligence: Pay attention to detail, follow instructions carefully, stay organized, and keep projects on time and within budget.


Travel:

  • Occasional travel by air/car (less than 5%).


Education and Experience:

  • Technical or vocational school education, Junior College/two-year college training, or Four-year college education.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, with some management experience preferred.
  • Experience with engineering and drafting practices, especially in 3D modeling and presentation of piping and structural steel details and data.
  • Experience with plant piping and steel design software.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction and fabrication knowledge.
  • Knowledge of data analysis, visualization, and management. Proficiency in SQL and Access databases.
