Job purpose

This position is responsible for technical sales support of SSAB Special Steels products within a specific geographical area; and works closely with SSAB Special Steels Sales, Market Development and SSAB customers/potential customers to identify new opportunities for the use of SSAB Special Steels.

Duties and responsibilities


  • Provide technical sales support of Special Steels products within a specified geographical area and in accordance with the current sales and marketing plan.
  • Develop the market for Special Steels products by upgrading existing applications, or developing new application designs.
  • Initiate and coordinate strategic application projects in close collaboration with customers and any required internal resources, and support any subsequent customer trials.
  • Support and educate customers at their facilities, and report on any actions taken and potential new opportunities/technical issues to appropriate parties.
  • Investigate claims and complaints related to Special Steels products, as required.
  • Keep key customers and Special Steels products sales personnel up-to-date on new and existing technical information related to Special Steels products, and conduct internal sales training as needed.
  • Audit and support customers participating in our Special Steels product programs -Hardox in My Body, My Inner Strenx and Hardox Wear Parts.
  • Assess and identify opportunities for the use of Special Steels products in new market scenarios and/or new geographical areas, as required.
  • Collect, interpret and report on competitors’ products and level of technical support.
  • Foster relationships with Inside Sales, Customer Service, Regional Sales Managers (RSM’s), Marketing, Product Support, Global Services, Finance and Engineering employees.


Qualifications

Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the area of product/equipment design, and general knowledge of workshop processes, e.g. welding, cutting and forming
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
  • Strong analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, able to delegate, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
  • Maintains good public relations by displaying an attitude of dedication, courtesy and professional competence that will be recognized as such by customers
  • Must be a team player and an effective, contributing member of the Technical Services Team
  • Current/active driver’s license


Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited College or University, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
  • 10+ years of experience in the area of product/equipment design, and previous hands-on experience in workshop production and/or design
  • Knowledge of the steel production process, specifically related to high strength and/or wear resistant steels
  • Bilingual in both official languages, orally & written (e.g. French, Spanish or Portuguese) as appropriate to assigned geographic area


Working conditions

Travel 50-70% of time in the field, at customer’s sites, Trade Shows, etc.
