A long time Sparks Group partner is seeking a contract Technical Writer to create end user training materials and instructions for their business initiatives.


Hybrid: 2 days onsite in Herndon, VA (flexible to 1 day onsite as needed)


Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), SharePoint sites, Quick Reference Guides, and research content
  • Create, update, and maintain ServiceNow Knowledge Articles to document ISO policies and procedures
  • Perform research and write, review, edit, and format documentation according to prescribed standards and guidelines, and/or what is appropriate for the end user community as approved by the key stakeholders
  • Establish and/or refine documentation standards and style guidelines, templates, and compliance with pre-existing products, as required
  • Write, proofread, and edit all types of documentation
  • Coordinate document control and repository processes
  • Based upon the staff role expectations and needs, adapt content to different audiences by applying the appropriate tone and voice
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop, review, and update ISO policies and procedures
  • Manage the technical writing assignment log and use it to report weekly status
  • Identify and communicate dependencies between documentation assignments as part of weekly status meetings
  • Meet with ITS staff to identify documentation assignment milestones and manage the production of documentation according to the milestones


Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in writing, editing, graphic skills, and formatting technical documentation, such as policies, processes, standard operating procedures, instructions, system user guides, quick reference guides, etc.
  • Ability to interview staff members to obtain information to produce and modify technical documentation
  • Strong individual and small group communications skills to include speaking, presenting, writing, listening, and facilitating work sessions
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Acrobat, Webex, and SnagIT


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or Communication
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Experience with supply chain management projects
  • Familiar with Organizational Change methodology
  • Risk, issue, and action item management skills
  • Exposure to ServiceNow Applications and Microsoft SharePoint
