The Opportunity
The Product Development team at Sunbird Bio Cambridge is searching for an innovative, motivated, and inquisitive Research Associate to help advance our neurodegenerative disease programs along the development pipeline. The ideal candidate will leverage their technical immunoassay experience to discover new biomarkers to further understand neurodegenerative disease signatures in blood samples.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute ELISA and immunoassay platforms to evaluate biomarker levels in whole blood and plasma samples correlated to neurodegenerative disease progression
- Contribute to assay optimization and new biomarker discovery by proactively employing a breadth of analytical and biochemical techniques to determine biomarker abundance, activity, and disease contrast in complex biofluids using the following analytical and biochemical techniques including but not limited to UV-vis spectrophotometry, fluorescence spectroscopy, luminescence, ELISA, and Luminex
- Contribute to Sunbird Bio’s culture of innovation
- Execute, troubleshoot, and optimize standard protocols, and survey scientific literature to inform the development of new assays and/or biomarkers
- Rigorously document experimental procedures and results according to established guidelines using an electronic lab notebook
- Function as a key contributor to scientific publications
- Interface with stakeholders across various research functions to conceptualize and execute experiments
- Internal sample management of critical samples and reagents
Qualifications
- BS or MS in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or biomedical/chemical engineering or similar discipline with 1-3+ years of relevant laboratory research experience
- Experience with plate-based assays using absorbance, fluorescence, and/or luminescence readouts
- Experience with ELISA is a plus
- Enthusiastic about scientific discovery, self-motivated, curious, eager to learn new skills and willing to contribute to the success of the organization
- Exceptional organizational, communication, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary and idea-rich environment
- Capability to design and execute thoughtful experiments, troubleshoot, and implement innovative solutions
