Manufacturing Engineer II

Responsible for the overall technical effectiveness of machining operations as well as planning for tooling and complete shop support in these areas. Responsibilities also include product cost estimating and/or CNC machine programming.

Manufacturing Engineer II Responsibilities:

1. Shop Floor Support

  • Generation of 3D models and CNC machine programs utilizing SOLIDWORKS CAD software and ESPRIT CAM software.
  • Create part manufacturing routings for cost estimating and manufacturing purposes. Determine appropriate process cycle times and tooling costs. Work with vendors and suppliers to establish OSP costs.
  • Provide daily production support through relevant process technicians, operators, and production supervision.
  • Work with OEM and contractors for training on new equipment purchase and maintenance of existing equipment.
  • Work with process technicians on new part to assure parts are setup the way it is planned.
  • Work with maintenance department to minimize down time with a priority on bottleneck machines.
  • Make recommendations if any equipment needs to be replaced or new capacity needs to be acquired.
  • Participate in APQP of new products for smooth running of new products on production floor.
  • Analyze quality problems to find root cause and put corrective actions in place.
  • Identify continuous improvements in manufacturing processes for existing products.

2. Tooling Design

  • Design all work holding tooling and gaging as necessary to fabricate part complete.
  • Evaluate tooling for current business, find areas for improvement on current processes and tooling, and make recommendations.
  • Control tooling purchases and utilize available tooling as much possible.
  • Be on the lookout for latest tooling technologies and make recommendations and justifications for investments.

3. QA Support

• Support QA as necessary on setup inspection or final inspection for any inspection techniques.

Manufacturing Engineer II Requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (preferred), or equivalent experience with a 2-year technical degree.
  • Experience in metals cutting with minimum 5 years in gear manufacturing or industrial engineering.
  • Knowledge of gear manufacturing and machining processes.
  • Knowledge of various materials, cutting tools, work holding, cutting parameters, and heat treat.
  • Experience with product cost estimating/quoting.
  • Experience with SOLIDWORKS CAD software or ESPRIT CAM software in a production environment.
  • Experience creating, reading, and editing programs for CNC mills and lathes that are written in G and M codes.
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-developed skills in multi-tasking and prioritizing.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and excel programs and effectively communicate verbal and email.
