Robert Half Legal is partnering with a mid-sized company in Orange County, seeking to bring a General Counsel to their team This is a hybrid role based out of Irvine (some weeks will require being on site most days, some weeks can be remote).


This will be the first attorney on staff; the company's goal is to keep legal work in-house as much as possible to reduce their outside counsel spend. Therefore, this attorney will be thrown a variety of projects, and have to problem solve on the fly. GCs who are unwilling to roll up their sleeves and do the work (people who are used to simply overseeing the work, not doing themselves) might not be set up for success. This is a financial services company that specializes in consumer borrowing, debt settlement, and collections. Experience in any of these areas is highly preferred


Responsibilities of Role:

This GC will be a jack-of-all-trades, but the major buckets are...

  • Litigation management focus, overseeing outside counsel: managing summons, complaints, and discovery.
  • Employment law: reviewing wage & hour claims, conducting employee investigations, and editing employee handbooks.
  • Contracts, drafting/redlining/negotiating: agreements are often with new or existing affiliates [loan companies that refer clients to Clarity], vendors and investors. T&C


Keys/Must Haves:

  • 5+ years of in-house counsel experience, not siloed into only doing one thing in-house. For example, attorneys who just focus on contracts, handing various projects.
  • Litigation oversight experience
  • Contract drafting/redlining/negotiating experience
  • CA bar required, AZ bar nice-to-have
