Ultimate Staffing is hiring a HR Generalist to support a large traffic control company with an important purpose. This position is located in Fremont, CA and the salary range is $85k to $95K, depending on experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Human Resources Generalist will assist in Human Resources functions. HR Generalist will have some or all of the following functional areas: full cycle recruiting, benefits administration, employee relations, compliance and is a back-up in the area of workers' compensation and leaves of absence. This position is a fast-paced role which requires an extremely perceptive person who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The Human Resources Generalist must be sensitive to the company needs, employee goodwill, and business needs. Providing great customer experience to our work force by listening, understanding and solving issues and problems in a clear, effective and empathetic way is a must.

POSITION DUTIES:

  • First contact person for HR Department, screens questions, issues and inquiries and directs them accordingly.
  • Administers employee verification programs such as Driver Program and Drug Testing.
  • Maintains human resources records by maintaining complete files for every employee, such as New Policies and Training Records.
  • Assist with Onboarding and Offboarding process for Union and Non-Union employees.
  • Assists with recruitment cycle for all open positions, job description writing, resume review, phone screens, interviews, and reference checks.
  • Direct talent development efforts; partner with management to evaluate staff development needs and to implement training solutions to address identified development needs.
  • Helps employees by explaining benefit programs and assists with employee benefits enrollment for all non-union employees.
  • Verifies candidates background by performing background checks and calling references.
  • Conducts audits to ensure data accuracy and employment law compliance are met. Stays current on all HR Compliance laws and regulations and ensures company is compliant in all areas.
  • Completes EDD forms for employees.
  • Maintains manager and employee confidence by keeping human resources information confidential.
  • Assist with internal professional development and training initiative. Use of Learning Management System.
  • Leaves & Accommodations: Protected leave, accommodations, and approval reporting, track leave of absence process. Performing data entry of leave of absence and benefit information into the human resources information, time & attendance, and payroll systems.
  • Oversee processes for workers' compensation, disability, leave, workplace accommodation requests, and health and safety issues; inform managers as needed. Act as a resource to others in organization, and oversee the accurate documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Assists with employee questions queries such as: PTO requests, W2 assistance, leaves of absence, initial payroll questions, HRIS questions, etc., via phone, chat, or email.
  • Understands all Collective Bargaining Agreements company is signatory to and works to ensure company is complaint with HR and Payroll related areas. Partners closely with Payroll department as necessary.
  • Provides managers with compensation reports and makes changes accordingly.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key Union labor organizations and their Business Agents and Representatives.
  • Maintains employee confidence by keeping human resources information confidential.
  • Ensure legal compliance with all local, state, and federal laws and guidelines by monitoring and implementing applicable policies, programs, processes, and monitoring systems to ensure compliance to include reporting, record and data collection and retention, Equal Employment Opportunity, Fair Labor Standards Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, etc.
  • Performs HR administrative duties and assists Training/Safety Department with administrative duties.
  • Creates and updates Standard Operating Procedures and ensures all Desk Procedures are well documented.
  • Continuous Employee Handbook updates to maintain established guidelines, clarify procedures and ensure compliance of company policies and employment laws.
  • Schedules meetings and interviews as requested by Sr. HR Manager or other department Managers.
  • Makes photocopies; mails, scans and emails documents; and performs other clerical functions.
  • Files documents into appropriate employee files.
  • Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

  • Construction or related industry experience is helpful, though not required.
  • Union experience is helpful, though not required.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years as Human Resources Generalist
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or similar field a plus
  • Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organizations HRIS and talent management systems.
  • Workers' compensation experience required
  • Leave of Absence Administration experience required
  • Employee relations experience required
  • Experience with BambooHR a plus, not required
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred, not required
