About the Worship Coordinator Position

Phoenix Christian Reformed Church seeks a worship leader who is passionate about leading congregational worship that glorifies God and helps the people of God to be Following Jesus Together. The Worship Coordinator position is a part-time role reporting to the Senior Pastor and is responsible for overseeing the worship service, including weekly worship service planning, leading weekly worship services, and volunteer coordination.


Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Requirements for the position:

o  A committed Christian. Familiarity with Reformed theology preferred.

o  Strong vocalist who can read music and sing parts.

o  A high level of proficiency on a “keys” instrument (piano or keyboard) and/or guitar to lead the weekly worship service.

o  Is a proficient musician with the ability to organize, coordinate, and lead vocalists and musicians. Experience is preferred.


2. Time: Paid, Part-time

o  Compensation is hourly, with additional allowances for approved expenses. This is an hourly, at-will position of 10-12 hours per week that could grow based on the gifts of the applicant and the needs of Phoenix CRC.

o  Hourly compensation will be $35-$45 per hour based on the experience and skills of the applicant. The position does not include benefits such as retirement or health insurance.

o  While some of the work can be done from anywhere at any time, the worship coordinator is expected to be onsite at the following times:

·  Typically, every Sunday morning from 7:30am to 11:30am.

·  For 1-2 hours during the week to coordinate and evaluate worship-service related items with the senior pastor.

·  Attendance at Worship and Arts Team meeting (monthly).


3. Order of service construction

o  Select songs (typically five to six) that correspond with the sermon text and topic. Aim for 70% contemporary, 30% traditional music blend. Refer to “Songs Sung at Phoenix CRC” spreadsheet for ideas.

o  Coordinate songs with other liturgical elements such as the opening greeting, confession and assurance, offerings, and the sermon.

o  Email selected songs to the pastor and secretary 10 days ahead of the worship service for any given Sunday.

·  The Worship Coordinator is responsible for the PowerPoint file that is used each Sunday. The work can be delegated to the secretary or others who are trained in creating PowerPoint files and have access to the lyrics files and images that are used.

o  Send order of worship to the vocalists and musicians for each worship service along with accompanying practice material.


4. Coordinate and Lead on Sunday morning

o  Play piano/keyboard or guitar and sing in a way that facilitates vibrant congregational singing.

o  Coordinate and lead praise team practice at 8am each Sunday.


5.  Coordinating, mentoring, and training of vocalists and musicians

o  Coordinate praise team singers

· Create a monthly schedule with vocalists assigned to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Sunday of the month.

o  Coordinate and schedule the musicians

·  This currently includes a guitarist and bass guitarist. We would like to add drums and other musical instruments based on the talents within the congregation.

o  The worship coordinator will have an active role in developing the praise team. The worship coordinator is encouraged to recruit new members (singers and musicians) to the PCRC praise team.


6. Assisting in other worship-service related items as appropriate.
