Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team as a Subject Matter Expert (SME). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in piping design and BPV (Boiler and Pressure Vessel) code expertise. The Mechanical Engineer SME will function as an Engineering Discipline Lead within the Engineering Programs Group, providing technical guidance, code compliance expertise, and design reviews to ensure the integrity and functionality of various engineering projects.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and conduct technical reviews of new designs, major facility modifications, and other engineering documents.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain discipline-specific processes, procedures, and standards for TOC engineering work.
  • Stay updated with DOE, national, and industry codes and standards and assess their applicability.
  • Provide expert guidance and authoritative recommendations in mechanical engineering disciplines, with a focus on piping design and BPV codes.
  • Support operations and project delivery by identifying appropriate design inputs and engineering standards.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external SMEs and the supply chain to enhance in-house expertise.
  • Lead and sponsor process improvement initiatives related to mechanical engineering.
  • Mentor and train less experienced engineers, fostering technical development and best practices within the team.
  • Apply extensive engineering knowledge to resolve complex problems, ensuring high standards of quality and compliance.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with significant expertise in piping design and BPV code.
  • Extensive knowledge of ASME B31 series and ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code.
  • Experience with nuclear safety analysis, fluid flow, thermal analysis, and piping system analysis software (e.g., AutoPipe).
  • Strong understanding of TOC procedures and standards.
  • Certification as a Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Washington is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Hose-in-Hose Transfer Lines (HIHTL) design and operation is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, make technical decisions, and represent the department in conferences.


Work Schedule:

  • Standard shift: Monday through Thursday, 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Non-standard workdays: Facility closure days, holidays, and other non-standard days as required.


Special Requirements:

  • Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) such as prescription safety glasses, steel-toed work boots, and weather-appropriate clothing.
  • Must be able to work in TOC-controlled office facilities and non-radiological/radiological areas under low-risk radiological permits.
