Position: Intellectual Property Counsel

Location: New York, NY

Type: Contract

Salary: $50/hr


Job Summary:

We are seeking an Intellectual Property Counsel to manage and oversee an extensive IP portfolio. This role is responsible for ensuring the protection of trademarks and copyrights for various entities and projects.


Key Duties:

  • Conduct trademark searches and clearances for new marks.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on intellectual property matters for new initiatives.
  • File and manage applications for new trademarks, including the submission of specimens.
  • Handle USPTO office action responses and ensure timely filings to maintain protection of existing marks.
  • Advise on intellectual property strategy and prepare cease and desist letters when necessary.
  • Act as a point of contact for intellectual property issues.
  • Coordinate with external counsel for international IP portfolio management and patent filings.
  • Provide legal advice while managing risks in a collaborative environment.
  • Contribute to special projects and other tasks as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • At least 3 years of experience in intellectual property law at a top-tier law firm or corporate legal department (in-house experience preferred).
  • Juris Doctor and admission to the NY State Bar.
  • Strong understanding of IP law and USPTO rules.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Practical approach to providing legal advice to business units.
  • Strong communication, drafting, and negotiation skills.
  • Commitment to high-quality work and organizational integrity.


Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in Spanish and/or French is a plus.
