Design Engineer

Position Summary:
The Restraints Design and Release Engineer (D&R Engineer) will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, validation, and release of restraint systems and components for current and upcoming vehicle models. This role will focus on the quality, functionality, and compliance of these components with engineering and safety standards. Ideal candidates will have strong project management skills, attention to detail, and experience in automotive engineering with an emphasis on interior and safety systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage project timelines, ensuring adherence to program milestones and timely part delivery.
- Develop and release engineering specifications and drawings.
- Create and maintain quality documentation, including FMA (Failure Mode Analysis), DVP&R (Design Verification Plan & Report), and other key engineering documents.
- Track supplier deliverables, supporting program objectives and ensuring alignment with specifications.
- Design, develop, validate, and release automotive systems, subsystems, and components in alignment with customer, regulatory, and internal engineering requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers and assembly teams to incorporate new designs and manage engineering changes in the assembly plant.
- Provide production support by troubleshooting quality and manufacturing issues in collaboration with assembly and supplier teams.
- Oversee Production Part Approval Processes (PPAP) for mass production readiness.
Skills Required:
- Excellent program management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with a team-oriented approach.
- Proven problem-solving capabilities demonstrated through previous roles.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in restraints engineering is highly desirable.
Experience Required:
- 5+ years of experience as a Design and Release Engineer (D&R Engineer) or in a similar role within automotive engineering.
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering.
Additional Information:
- Onsite Requirement: This position requires full onsite presence; remote candidates will not be considered.
- Travel: Approximately 10% travel is anticipated, with travel to various U.S. locations and Mexico.
