Safety & Environmental Specialist Needed - Fort Wayne, IN & Findlay, OH Area


POSITION OVERVIEW

- Focused on supporting overall safety initiatives and overseeing the Environmental Management System (including adherence to environmental and ISO 14001 standards).

- Ensures that safety and environmental benchmarks are met at the facility level, and that staff adhere to safety programs in line with company policies, OSHA, Department of Health, and EPA regulations.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


- Assists in developing overarching safety policies and procedures for Corporate and plant teams.

- Conducts inspections of plant facilities to identify potential or existing safety, health, and environmental concerns and suggests corrective or preventative actions.

- Advises plants on equipment usage, shop floor hazards, fire prevention, and general safety protocols.

- Engages in accident and injury investigations, providing support in the preparation of documentation and evidence for corporate hearings or legal cases.

- Oversees safety and ergonomic concerns aimed at reducing workers' compensation claims and insurance expenses.

- Prepares and files OSHA accident reports as necessary.

- Assesses and suggests improvements in methods and procedures within the assigned area.

- Provides guidance to plant management on meeting environmental and safety goals.

- Supports plants and other facilities with environmental compliance and customer requirements related to EMS.

- Conducts regulatory research, handles permitting, and stays updated on regulatory changes.

- Performs additional tasks as required.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or related field, or equivalent experience.

- 3-5 years of experience in safety management, ideally within the automotive or stamping supplier industry.


DESIRABLE SKILLS


- Proficient with computers.

- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

- Includes visits to plant locations; requires use of personal protective equipment; involves exposure to typical manufacturing environment hazards and conditions.
