The Network Engineer helps design, implement, manage, and triage Cal.net’s Network in a fast-paced team environment. This individual will leverage an intermediate to advanced level of knowledge and experience in IP Networking, Microwave, Fixed Wireless, and Passive Optical Network to reach the goals of the position.   The Network Engineer will be included in the on-call rotation, receiving alerts, triaging, escalating, and dispatching, as necessary. Rotations are Mon-Sun and have an approximate frequency of every 6 weeks.  

        

Focus: 

  • Design, deploy, and support the company’s network, meeting engineering and business constraints while maintaining and/or contributing to architectural standards. 
  • Focus on network design, performance, maintenance, problem resolution and hardware configuration. 
  • Design, configure, test, and maintain network equipment and related services for network support. 
  • Contribute to the diagnosis and resolution of complex network problems.  
  • Track and record network designs, roadmap, achievements, and more.  
  • Comply with all security policies, best practices, company procedures, etc. to ensure that the highest level of system and data integrity is maintained. 
  • Participate in technical design meetings with peers to ideate new network features. 

 

Skill Set: 

  • 3-8 years of experience architecting, designing, deploying, and supporting network infrastructure. 
  • Hands-on experience implementing and administrating network devices and setting and maintaining policies and rights within a network environment.  
  • Technical understanding of telecom network hardware and components (IP Networks, L2/L3 wide area transports, passive optical networks, RSVP/MPLS-TE, BGP)  
  • RF Design for Fixed Wireless Access and Microwave 
  • Great analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken. 
  • Self-starter, able to contribute to a self-organized team and to take initiative 

 


Preferred Experience, Education & Certifications:  


  • Bachelor’s in technical field such as networking, computer science, information technology, computer engineering, etc.  
  • ISP/Telecom Network Engineering 
  • Nokia Network Routing Specialist II Certification 
  • Cambium ePMP Certification 
  • Ansible/Napalm/Python Automation
