As a Senior R&D Engineer, you will lead the research, design, and development of Brinter’s new 3D-manufactured tissue products. Reporting to the Director of R&D and working in close collaboration with the Chief Science Officer, this role requires deep expertise in medical device engineering and project management. You will oversee the technical aspects of multiple projects, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery while contributing to the generation of new intellectual property.

This full-time position is based in Winston-Salem, NC. While primarily on-site, hybrid work may be available based on R&D schedules and project needs.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of new 3D-manufactured medical products from concept to commercialization, including design freeze, verification, validation, and launch.
  • Have experience working under a Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485 regulations.
  • Translate clinical needs into engineering specifications and develop prototypes to meet those requirements.
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and materials engineering to create innovative tissue repair solutions.
  • Drive intellectual property creation, including patents and proprietary technologies.
  • Identify and mitigate risks in design, manufacturing, and clinical applications.
  • Mentor junior engineers and delegate effectively to support team growth.


Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Proven experience in 3D printing technology, particularly in medical applications.
  • 5+ years of experience in the medical device industry, with a strong background in quality management systems compliant with 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in additive manufacturing for medical applications, especially in tissue engineering.
  • Experience in surgical mesh or orthopedic implant development is preferred
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision while exercising independent judgment.

  • Expertise in orthopedic product development.
  • Background in polymer chemistry and biomaterials.
