Primary Function:

The Estimator will review proposal design specifications and engineering drawings to determine scope of projects and prepare portions or full estimates for one or more specific techniques related to specialty foundation construction. Reports to Estimating Manager.


Location: Boston Office , Charlestown , Ma


Activities and Responsibilities:

  1. Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work.
  2. Attend pre-bid meeting, conduct site visits; attend post-bid meetings and discuss/negotiate scope of work.
  3. Review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
  4. Prepare complete takeoff of scope of work.
  5. Assist in developing bid packages for subcontractors and suppliers.
  6. Work directly with staff and operations department on completing various project estimates and documentation.
  7. Assist in the development of proposals and presentations.
  8. Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimates figures including updated information on prices from suppliers.
  9. Organize and detail the estimate for review purposes and efficiently turned over to operations personnel.
  10. Review and incorporate historical data from previous projects, purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity analysis reports, etc. into current estimates.
  11. Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.


Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree (4 years) in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in estimating, cost control and construction engineering within the heavy civil construction industry.
  • Must possess knowledge of estimating techniques and cost control, as well as the ability to interpret computerized cost data and systems essential
  • Software skills to include HCSS Heavy Bid, Excel, Word, Outlook, and others.
  • Previous experience working with Oracle Primavera P6 and/or Microsoft Project.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technology and business intelligence tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including excellent verbal/written communication.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Must have legal work permit
