The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is seeking an experienced leader to serve as the agency’s legislative liaison with members of the legislature and legislative staff. This position works with the Director of Government Affairs to lead the development of the agency’s legislative proposals and provide expert technical advice, guidance, and strategies to MnDOT’s senior leaders and managers. This position ensures program, and fiscal implications of plans are considered in the legislative planning process and reflected in the agency's proposals.


Also, this position manages training and internal consulting on legislative matters, including helping agency employees understand the legislative process and how it relates to the agency’s work.


The sensitive and complex nature of this position requires excellent organizational and communications and the ability to effectively negotiate compromises and seek resolution of transportation issues to advance the agency’s mission. Superior verbal and written communications skills are essential to collaborate with government officials, industry leaders, and other stakeholders.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

One year of managerial experience OR two years supervisory experience OR three years advanced professional experience in strategic planning and public administration. Experience must include working with a legislative body, Governor’s Office, or federal, state, or tribal government agencies.
