Position Summary
The Inpatient Unit Maintenance Technician is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Inpatient Unit Maintenance Technician performs functions in compliance with department, facility, and regulatory agency safety policy and procedure by demonstrating efficient and safe use of housekeeping equipment, and solutions and to effectively communicate with supervisor, staff, and patients. Also performs varied tasks to maintain an orderly, sanitary, and attractive environment of care within the facility.
Position Specific Responsibilities
- Reports the need of any equipment needing repair or any unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Handles Bio-hazard and regular waste per department and infection control polices.
- Responds to requests for engineering services from customers during evening, night and weekend shifts to provide an environment that is free of hazards and conductive to patient care within available resources.
- Performs preventive or assigned maintenance tasks when not responding to service requests.
- Maintains fire extinguisher maintenance and medical gas systems in accordance with regulatory requirement.
- Maintains fountains outside in working order.
- Provides floor maintenance as needed.
- Provides minor repairs and/or replacement of parts (plumbing, light bulbs, bed alarms).
- Reports potential patient safety issues to supervisor immediately.
- Documents safety incidents in the safety binder and reports to supervisor.
- Ability to effectively communicate with supervisor, staff and patients.
- Presents department in a positive manner to visitors, patients, staff, doctors and others.
- Participates as needed in agency quality improvement programs.
- Demonstrates appreciation for patient’s privacy and confidentiality.
- Performs varied tasks in order to maintain an orderly, sanitary, and attractive environment of care within the family.
- Cleans all assigned areas using the cleaning procedure as outlined in orientation. For example: uses appropriate solutions for cleaning and disinfecting area to be cleaned, thoroughly washes and sanitized beds/furniture when patients are discharged, routinely collects waste, collects waste, sanitizes trash can as needed.
- Cleans assigned carts and equipment, ensures all items are returned in an orderly fashion 100% of the time.
- Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, etc., bring supplies and equipment to area on an as needed basis.
- Observes and follows isolation techniques in accordance with infection control policy.
- Cleans and sanitizes after blood and body fluid spills as needed, using proper techniques per infection control policy.
- Consistently uses proper personal protective equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a facilities maintenance capacity required.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of related experience and/or training highly preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
