JOB DESCRIPTION


Spur Design is seeking a licensed Electrical Engineer with industrial design experience to lead project teams and prepare construction specifications. Strong communication skills and experience with FAA standards are highly desirable. Proficiency in BIM operations and power system calculations is a plus.


JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Provide Electrical Engineering design, guidance, and documentation on projects within Spur Design offices, including client liaison, site investigations, contract documentation, and construction administration.
  • Develop detailed Electrical Design drawings and specifications from the schematic stage to complete construction documents, utilizing Revit MEP or other modeling software.
  • Perform Electrical Engineering tasks, including production of contract documents, specifications, design narratives, calculations, equipment selections, and submission packaging.
  • Apply codes, design guidelines, engineering judgment, company standards, and industry best practices to provide outstanding service to Spur’s clients.
  • Manage project electrical teams, set production deadlines aligned with overall project schedules, and prepare detailed electrical construction specifications.
  • Ensure proficiency in BIM operations, SKM software, and power system calculations.
  • Maintain and update office systems including Revit (BIM) libraries, filing systems, and project management tools.
  • Travel for site visits, professional collaborations, and satellite office visits.
  • Work with the Electrical Director and design team to contribute toward improving Spur Design’s methods and processes.
  • Attend office meetings and provide regular progress reports on individual projects.
  • Support marketing efforts, project interviews, level of effort estimates, and project proposals.
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing growth and professional development opportunities.
  • Act as a good steward for Spur both inside and outside the office.




RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Perform all functions of lower engineer levels and senior designer requirements.
  • Lead MEP design teams, providing electrical engineering and design support on industrial and FAA-related projects.
  • Lead technical aspects of projects involving systems such as engine generators, 600V switchgear, bus ducts, MCCs, motor controls, and power system controls.
  • Manage all design and specification functions with no supervision.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior staff, including thorough technical reviews and resolving design issues.
  • Serve as the responsible engineer on multiple projects, sometimes simultaneously, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery.
  • Coordinate with clients, contractors, and project officials to resolve coordination challenges effectively.
  • Develop and progress Spur Design standards and processes.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings, providing presentations on project status and ensuring alignment with client needs.
  • Collaborate across multiple disciplines, including mechanical, electrical, architectural, and structural.
  • Determine lifecycle costs, construction cost estimates, project scheduling, and develop fee proposals when required.
  • Stay current on code changes, industry trends, and technical tools to enhance work efficiency.
  • Review, stamp, and sign design documents when required.
  • Represent the firm in a professional manner, enhancing client relationships and promoting repeat work and referrals.
  • Actively contribute to business development by promoting new opportunities.



QUALIFICATIONS


  • 10+ years in the construction industry, with a focus on industrial systems design.
  • Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited program in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Construction Science, or related field.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical building systems, codes, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in BIM operations, SKM software, and power system calculations.
  • Prior experience with FAA projects and knowledge of FAA standards is highly desirable.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce comprehensive project narratives and collaborate effectively with clients, project teams, and management.
  • Ability to balance project deadlines, respond to changes, and mentor junior staff.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other common office software.

  • Retirement benefits include matching 401k contributions of 1-for-1 matching up to 3% and 1-for-2 matching up to 5%, with a maximum match of 4% for a 5% employee contribution. This plan is a “safe harbor” eligible plan and, subsequently, no vesting period is required past initial eligibility requirements.
  • Spur Design also offers reimbursement of training and professional organization dues or fees with prior approval by ownership.
