In order to continue to solidify its position as the leading solar development company in Virginia and West Virginia, together with its business goals to quadruple its growth in sales in  2024 and to solidify new partnerships, the Company is further strengthening its management team with this position.


Position Description

The position requires a high level of integrity, independent judgment, excellent communications and people skills, and the ability to plan, prioritize and organize a diversified workload. This would be an ideal position for someone who is seeking to grow their skills through employment with a dynamic company that serves as a force for good. It is a hands-on high level bookkeeping position with responsibilities for all facets of the company's operations.  While some on-the-job training is expected in order to fully assimilate the company's dynamic business model, preference will be given to candidates who possess the aptitude and attitude to take on the higher level functions.


Specific Duties


Basic Bookkeeping includes tasks such as:

  • Recording day-to-day financial transactions (e.g., sales, purchases, receipts, and payments)
  • Posting debits and credits to the appropriate ledger accounts
  • Reconciling bank statements, AP/AR, loan balances, investment/capital
  • Managing accounts payable and receivable
  • File, organize and maintain documents as required (paper files and SharePoint
  • Record employee PTO and prepare payroll reports for external accountant..


Higher-Level Bookkeeping Functions

Higher-level bookkeeping involves additional responsibilities that require a deeper understanding of financial processes, regulations, and often some elements of accounting and strategic financial planning.


Higher-level bookkeeping includes more advanced activities such as:

  1. Financial Statement Preparation: Preparing financial statements (e.g., balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements) from the bookkeeping records.
  2. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assisting with budget creation and financial forecasting based on historical data and financial trends.
  3. Management Reporting: Generating reports that provide insights into the financial health of the business, often customized for management purposes.
  4. Tax Preparation Assistance: Gathering necessary financial records and reports needed for tax preparation and working closely with accountants to ensure tax compliance, uploading information as required (monthly/quarterly/annually).
  5. Internal Audits and Compliance Checks: Conducting internal audits to ensure compliance with financial regulations and best practices, and assisting in identifying areas for improvement in financial management.
  6. Payroll Management: Overseeing payroll in a more detailed manner, ensuring compliance with tax laws and benefit plans, and managing complex payroll scenarios, including PTO and employee benefits.
  7. Inventory Management: Tracking and managing inventory, and integrating it with financial systems for accurate cost management.
  8. Advanced Reconciliations: Handling more complex reconciliations, such as those involving multiple bank accounts, multiple wholly owned and partially owned LLCs, and inter-company transactions.
  9. Project LLC Set-up and Tracking:  Set up new LLCs in QB with current chart of accounts, and track contract requirements such as Certificate of Insurance, tax equity investments, dividends, and project budget spreadsheets. 
  10. Other Duties as May Be Assigned.



Direct Report  

The BFM will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).  The BFM will work with Company Officers (COO, CEO, and President) to develop cash forecasts and coordinate office functions. Qualifications include higher level bookkeeping experience, and proficiency with QuickBooks.


Requirements

  • Proven accounting experience and a fluency with QuickBooks experience
  • Solid understanding of accounting, and AR/AP principles
  • Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounts and financial records
  • Proficiency with data entry 
  • Hands-on experience with spreadsheets 
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Preferred experience with SharePoint and Hubspot
  • Customer service orientation 
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Associates degree or BS in accounting or equivalent experience

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment.


Physical Demands: This is largely a sedentary role, sometimes requiring standing, sitting, and bending, as some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.


Personal Presence: This person would serve as one of the primary contacts for the company, by phone and in person, and would create the first impression of the company requiring  a high level of professional decorum.

 

Status: Full-time employee


Start date: August, 2024

Work location: Corporate office – 11 E Beverley St Ste 26 Staunton VA

Hours: As a salaried position days and hours of work are driven by the demands of the job and may vary from week to week.  Timely completion of the job requirements is valued over a set schedule.  The BFM can work with their supervisor on development of an effective work schedule.  Flexible scheduling and remote work is an option.  

Performance goals: From time to time, and not less than once every three months, BFM will meet with CEO to review performance and performance goals. BFM will work with CEO to draft a set of annual performance goals within two months of the employment date.

Job Title: Business Finance Manager

Effective Start Date: August, 2024

Base Salary: $45,000 to $65,000

Bonus: Signing Bonus $ TBD

Other bonuses determined from time to time by the CEO in consultation with the Officers as Secure Solar Futures LLC grows

Mileage/ .60 cents a mile

Cell phone $40/month

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting (Preferred) or equivalent experience

Willingness to travel:

  • Limited travel expected
