Job Description: Controls Engineer

Work Schedule: Optional hybrid; required in-office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Standard 8-hour shifts with potential overtime as requested by the manager.

Requirements:

  • Personal Protective Equipment: Steel-toe boots required.
  • Travel: Primarily domestic within NAMCs, with occasional international travel to Mexico and Canada (candidate must have necessary immigration documents).
  • Purpose of Travel: Meetings and hands-on field work.
  • Peak Travel Periods: Summer Shutdown (late June - early July) and Winter Shutdown (late December - early January).

Role Purpose:

The primary objective is to design and implement control and safety control systems for new and modified press equipment.

Department Overview:

The Press Controls team supports all NAMCs by upgrading and modifying existing equipment and assisting with new equipment installations. The team consists of six full-time team members and three contract workers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the electrical design for mechanical, hydraulic, and servo power presses, and related automation equipment.
  • Design, troubleshoot, and program HMI, PLC, and Safety PLCs, creating schematics, layouts, and performing detailed troubleshooting.
  • Develop and install panel, field device, and hardwire layouts as well as main motor and servo drive configurations, including wiring.
  • Conduct risk assessments and evaluations and oversee buy-offs with required documentation.
  • Supervise vendors during installation and manage partial and full line commissioning.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with the Controls, Seibi, and Project Management teams.
  • Establish and lead development of Controls standards for stamping operations.
  • Participate in risk assessment creation, scheduling, and project KPIs.

Interdepartmental Interactions:

Regular collaboration with Press Equipment PE, Seibi, PM teams, and Casting and Resin PE groups.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Electrical and PLC/HMI programming.
  • Familiarity with Allen Bradley/Rockwell, ToyoPuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Fanuc CNC, Beckhoff, and Proface HMI.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly in PowerPoint, Excel, and Project.
  • Experience in equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Effective multitasking skills and clear, open communication with the management team.
