Boston, United States LVI Associates Full time

Job Location: This position is based out of Boston.

Company Overview: We are a prominent engineering firm focused on design and engineering services for infrastructure projects. Our organization offers a robust benefits package, including competitive health and dental plans, paid time off, holidays, and a retirement savings plan, all within a supportive work environment.

Our Vision: In response to the increasing industry focus on sustainability and client requests for environmentally friendly solutions, we launched a dedicated sustainability practice in 2022. Our Director of Sustainability leads our efforts to implement effective corporate sustainability strategies. Our expertise and commitment to sustainability enable us to provide significant value to clients aiming for enhanced energy efficiency and eco-friendly outcomes.

As a comprehensive engineering firm, we support clients throughout all project phases—from initial planning and design to construction and beyond. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to innovate and collaborate with a supportive team while making a meaningful contribution to our industry.

Position Overview: The successful candidate will have a solid foundation in building science and hands-on experience with energy modeling and control systems. They will spearhead sustainability initiatives from project start to finish, ensuring that all projects uphold high technical standards while meeting specific energy and sustainability goals for clients. Effective collaboration with project teams—including various discipline leads, architects, and clients—is crucial for managing energy and sustainability aspects during the design phase.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance in optimizing HVAC design, conducting energy modeling, and implementing decarbonization strategies in collaboration with architects and engineers.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and design strategies to offer innovative, practical solutions for client energy objectives.
  • Support a team of energy modeling professionals and auditors, following industry standards and performing cost-effectiveness evaluations of energy-saving measures.
  • Understand and explain the implications of various sustainability certification programs (e.g., LEED, Living Building Challenge) to stakeholders.
  • Evaluate local, state, and federal regulations, advising clients on compliance strategies related to HVAC and building systems, and identify financial incentives for energy efficiency projects.
  • Remain informed about building codes and sustainable design practices to ensure alignment with client standards and certifications.
  • Ensure thorough documentation and reporting for projects.
  • Mentor and guide teams on sustainable design practices, promoting teamwork and knowledge sharing.
  • Strengthen client relationships through effective communication and project management, while exploring new business opportunities.
  • Collaborate with leadership to execute MEP components of the corporate sustainability strategy and training initiatives.
  • Conduct fieldwork, including assessments of mechanical spaces and systems, which may require climbing.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Science, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on energy modeling and sustainable design principles.
  • Strong understanding of building codes and standards related to energy efficiency.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling software such as IESVE or similar tools.
  • Basic knowledge of building automation systems and design principles.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.

Benefits: We provide a professional work environment with a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health and dental insurance, paid holidays, vacation time, and a retirement savings plan. We value diversity and inclusivity and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
